Quoting: Stadel
Dahlin plays the right side, so its not out of the question (and in fact given the market likely) that they acquire a lefty.
But i feel like Hanifin signing for 6x6 is on the low end? Why wouldnt calgary just keep him?
I think 6m is fair looking at the Weegar contract.
The reason for trading Hanifin could be one of 3 reasons...
-- 1. He doesn't want to re-sign long-term in Calgary (we've seen 2 American players do this to us since Covid, that said both Gaudreau & Tkachuk are from super close-knit families and live with their families in the off-season, I haven't seen anything close to that with Hanifin.
-- 2. We want to improve our offense by trading from a position of strength
-- 3. We have 4 pending UFA defensemen in the summer of '24 (Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov & Kylington), we may only be able to retain 3 of 4 and Hanifin may be the odd man out due to salary demands
That said, I don't think Krebs & a 1st is the kind of deal Calgary does because we'd want to add top 6 talent, I don't see us chasing a 1st. I think Krebs would be a target, but I think we'd want Mittlestadt instead of a first.
