If DeBrincat is traded Ottawa could do that. Florida laughs at that pithy offer.

I don't see Florida giving up on Knight for that little. Goaltending is definitely not a weakness for them right now but they still have high expectations for him and are committed to him, proven by the contract they gave him. Not enough value there regardless.

Montreal would like to counter with a 3rd instead of a 7th, a quicky, and a complementary poutine cause we say hell yes (Ignoring the NTC)

2 years of Peterson for 2024 1st is bit steep as is without getting anything in return at all.
I mean that price tag is what we charged for Monahan and he was a NHLer clear cut even if beat up
Peterson i think we can rebound but as it stands he's a 5m dollar AHL player
Clearing 5m x 2 years has to yield more then a late LAK pick IMO

2 years x 5m for a AHL player
We got a similar pick for a NHL player we were under the impression we'd flip at the TDL before he was re-injured
Peterson there's no chance of that type of return even if he makes it to the NHL

It's getting a 1st for practically nothing, we can let Monahan walk in the offseason and still have profited a 1st round pick for taking him, you're argument is we shouldn't take a free first just because it's less likely we could flip him?

The Kings won't give up a 1st to dump Petersen. His cap hit isn't bad while buried in the AHL, and the Kings can just buy him out next summer for a negligible buyout cap hit. $6.85M in cap over 3 years. Only $5M in actual dollars.

Since when does a sub $4M cap hit cost a 1st round pick to dump?

Because he has double the term and we cant flip him
As a pending UFA sure 100% ill take anyone for a 1st
For 2 years x 5 and a 6m AHL salary thats a costly deal to take on for a late 1st .

I mean you effectively spent 11m on top of all this in his Salary the next 2 years whether he's AHL or NHL
There's a number of reasons was this is lowball and since Marleau atleast a 1st for 1 year is the standard.
Anything more requires RS or a buyout situation again with 1 year term

None i cant think take on 2 years for a late 1st at 11m dollar loss financially its not worth it business wise.
Unless you're telling me its a top 20 pick there's nothing you can say that is rooted in NHL History where this is a Bargain

Thats horrible
He's getting 5m salary in the AHL same as the NHL
Just because AHL is covering 1/3rd doesnt make it savings just divided between NHL and AHL.
For 2 years . . .

1 year sure im on board
2 years for a late 1st ?
The standard has always be 1 year for a 1st round pick
I dont recall it ever changing , unless you can cite examples from the NHL to disprove the Rule?

Straight up capdumps with no cap coming back ?

-Bickell CHI gave up Panarin on a ELC
-Clarkson TML gave up a 1st and a 2nd round pick
-Datsyuk DET gave up a top 20 pick dump his cap
-Grabovski NYI gave up a 1st and 2nd round pick with Bischoff on ELC
-Ladd WPG paid a 1st and 2nd round pick with Dano on ELC
-Marleau TML gave up a 1st round pick to dump his cap
-Monahan CGY gave up a 1st round pick to dump his cap

The alternative is giving away players like VGK did with Reigning Vezina winner at the time MAF or with Pacioretty to CAR.
TBL downgraded from Mcdonugh to Myers to as they had not picks to pay to move him out at the time but needed cap cleared.

I can sight more Examples of this happening then Cal Peterson 2 year 5m contracts being taken on for a 1st round pick alone .
Those are just the one's i remembered and looked up the details on here to prove a point.
Given time i can find more im sure
But there's a reason why teams eat Shi* on bad contracts rather then move them out 9/10
MTL did it with Alzner cause the cost to dump him was too much

There's so much factually wrong with this, it's insane. I can't tell if you're being purposefully disingenuous or not. There are zero examples here of a team giving up a 1st round pick for a sub $4M cap hit.

1. Chicago gave up Teuvo Teräväinen, not Panarin. They also got back a 2nd and a 3rd round pick in the trade.
2. Clarkson was given up by Columbus along with a 1st + 2nd as part of the expansion draft so that Vegas would pick William Karlsson instead of one of their other quality young players. It's disingenuous to suggest that the picks were solely for the dump.
3. Detroit gave up the 20th overall pick (along with a 2nd and Joe Vitale), but they got the 16th overall pick back in the same draft. Again, you're either ignorant of the details or being disingenuous.
4. Grabovski - Like Columbus, this was part of the expansion draft and not just a cap dump.
5. Ladd - Winnipeg got a 1st round pick BACK for Ladd when they traded him to Chicago. They didn't pay a 1st. The Islanders later signed him as a UFA and traded his contract as a cap dump for a 2nd and a 3rd.
6. Marleau - Had a $6.25M cap hit on a 35+ contract with a NMC. There was no AHL cap relief waiting for him. Significantly more than Petersen's.
7. Monahan - Had a $6.375M cap hit. They could have buried him, but still his cap hit would have been in excess of $5M.

Funny you bring up Andrew Ladd, because his dump from the Islanders to Arizona is probably the most relevant here, and it only cost them a 2nd and a 3rd round pick. That's a reasonable comparable to dump Petersen's contract.

I think you're manipulating the situation a bit, this is not a sub 4 million dollar cap hit. You can't say "assuming he's burried the cap hit is only this" because some of the contracts were also burried or stashed on LTIR which is 0 cap hit lol. His cap hit is over 5 million.

Wait Wait Wait ..... Your argument is the Expansion Teams VGK didnt actively offer to take Capdumps for pay?
There's nothing Disingenuous about that eh buddy ?

Yet you still didnt list examples proving your statement which was what you were required to do to prove your point.
Your stance is to argue Conjecture rather then prove your point.

I took the time to write an intelligent reply to Prove my Point.
You chose not to accept my direct challenge for you to do the same.

The Kings aren't going to pay for cap relief that they're not getting. If they're done with Petersen, he'll be stashed in the AHL, meaning he has a cap hit of $3.85M. They don't need to dump $5M, they need to dump $3.85M.

Marleau and Monahan are the only contracts on his list that were moved for a 1st. Marleau had a NMC and was on a 35+ contract, so they couldn't bury him, and even if he agreed to waive his NMC to go to the AHL, there is no cap relief on 35+ contracts, so they would have still been charged the full $6.25M. Monahan could have been stashed in the AHL, but since his cap hit was $6.375M, even while buried his cap hit was in excess of $5M. All his other examples are flat out false.

No my argument is that the teams weren't paying Vegas solely for cap dumps, but rather not to select the otherwise good young players that they didn't want them to. Anaheim GAVE Shea Theodore to Vegas for future considerations so they wouldn't selected one of their other good young players. Teams like Columbus and the Islanders weren't just paying to dump a bad contract, but rather so Vegas wouldn't take one of their other quality players.

"I took the time to write an intelligent reply to Prove my Point."

You took the time to write a bunch of false statements that aren't factually accurate. You were incorrect (or lied) on half of them. If that's your basis for intelligent discourse, I can just say that the Kings don't need to pay to dump Petersen because if they stash him in the AHL, they get 100% cap relief.
