Calgary's 2024 1st round pick has prior conditions attached to it from an earlier trade with Montreal. If Montreal takes the 2024 pick then Arizona gets a 2025 1st (Florida's originally) instead.

One thing that could be a problem is Arizona is already loaded with picks they may prefer good young players and/or prospects over more picks.

Ottawa gets what they've been looking for a top 4 RD at a bargain price. If they add more Calgary could send them Vladar too.

Since adding Chychrun, the Senators have a top 4 so they don't need Tanev anymore. He would be an improvement on their top 6, but he would be a luxury that they cannot afford cap wise. Dorion is posturing like he will have a budget until the new ownership situation is established. Even without a budget, they won't have much cap room left to both re-sign their players and add their biggest need, which is a starting goalie.

Is your reasoning to include Tanev just a cap dump?

No the Sens are fine at LD now but still weak at RD and right shot D in general. Besides a 2nd is selling low on Tanev. If he's healthy he'll fetch a late 1st at the trade deadline and if not he's still easily worth a 2nd just for his play during the regular season. But Calgary will need to move at least one of the pending UFAs out if they want to bring anyone good in and Tanev is my first choice to move.
