Make it a sign and trade on both sides instead of salary retention and the Hurricanes would gladly take it

Nah, I don't think so. Petry gets a bad rap on CF but I think he's not as bad as people like to think. Maybe not worth his contract, but is Fabbri? This deal might be off by a pick coming to Detroit but not a 1st IMO.

Yeah, I'm probably off by a bit. Maybe a 2nd/3rd in that deal. Wasn't trying too hard to win the trade, just to get a good partner for Ed while moving Fabbri.

Why are the Red Wings giving the Canes Kubalik for nothing basically after scoring 20 goals?

I mean Petry has a NTC and a pretty bad contract. There are very few teams that could take on his contract without any retention, and Detroit is probably the only team that can take his contract with no retention and he'd wave his NTC for. Detroit has all of the leverage.

I mean Drury is still a very good prospect... he'll flourish in Detroit where he'll probably get top-six minutes

Literally all the leverage is in Detroit's favor. Especially with zero retention

He'd see absolutely 0 time as 2C.

Assuming that Pittsburgh is actively shopping Petry, ofc.

Would be lucky to see even half of his time at 3C.

Updated for PIT to add a 2nd.

Was using this ACGM to look for fits and how it impacted the roster. I think CAR would certainly have to give up a mid-round pick but there's also the fact that Kuba is unsigned after this year as a UFA, which also has to be considered (since Drury is RFA). Updated to have CAR send a 3rd.

Probably not as 2C but maybe a 2nd line winger... He's ran into a logjam in the Carolina room and maybe a new change of scene would allow him to florish

You think our situation is that bad?
I'd think he'd be fighting Zadina for the 13th man spot.

He getting time on a Stanley Cup Contender... he'd probably get middle-six minutes on a mid-tier team

So did Ben Chiarot.

He'd, at very best, be a subpar 3rd liner.
Not worth Kubalik at the very least.

I'd be content with just a 2nd tbh.
Preferably, I'd rather see him used in a trade to acquire DeBrincat or TK.

So would I, but I don't see OTT (play style) or PHI (age) being interested.

Okay so a 2nd. I think if you want DeBrincat your going to have to pay way more than the normal asking price

Kubalik had a good year and all but i dont think the canes do with this for a short term asset.

It depends. On DeBrincat's 10 team list, there's maybe a handful of teams there that can get him. On that, probably half want him. I really only see 4 locations;
Seattle, Detroit, Buffalo, and New Jersey.
New Jersey is probably the #1 spot; Bratt for DeBrincat seems to be a great deal for both teams, but if Bratt doesn't want to go to Ottawa/DeBrincat doesn't want to go to New Jersey, then that plan falls apart.

Seattle may not want him; I think they like how their roster is built, but I can see them targeting DeBrincat.

Detroit and Buffalo are division rivals, but both have cap and assets. This is assuming he's willing to go to Buffalo, but he still may not want to go there.

If it's a sign-and-trade and the price is reasonable then I'd more than like him as a 3-rd line winger
