Description

It is clear that Columbus is trying to be competitive next year.

It is unreasonable to expect Carlsson or Fantilli to be a #1 or #2 centre next year. Even Kent Johnson for that matter. So they go out and trade for Schmaltz who is a good 2nd line centre/winger.

Schmaltz is a very good #2, Jenner is a very good #3. As long as one of Johsson or Carlsson or Sillinger can perform as an average #2C, they will be in a decent spot.

Thoughts? Is Dumais untouchable (his stat line is almost unheard of in the Q this year)

Do they look at goaltending as well?

Am I missing anything? Any other candidates for that centre spot? Of course there is Lindholm out of Calgary but he is a pending UFA. He could definitely be a good option but he will cost a lot and the 3rd overall would not be in play.

think the '24 2nd needs to be 1st at least. Also schmaltz isnt really a C they tried to play him there but never worked out, last two years (his best by far) have been wing full time.

CBJ pass. This team isn’t really better with Schmaltz, and I think the cost to get him is prohibitive.

If he’s not a center the jackets won’t want him. This package is already too much imo so they pass on schmaltz
