Over paying for a few grinders that have contracts that do not hurt the team when it comes time to start winning (3 years down the road).

I'm sure Laughton has more value at the trade deadline. Keep accumulating picks and looking to the next 3-4 years!

We aren't trading an unprotected 1st for Carter Hart

We overpay to have them join a bottom dwelling team. Could be deadline deals with them as well.

The deals don't hurt us in the long run so we will probably have to overpay them a bit.

Shouldn't matter if it's protected or not next year, especially if the goal is to make the playoffs.

Didn't think of protecting it but as long as a first is in there it makes sense. Top prospect on LW and two high picks.

It should. You can't predict things like injuries. That pick could very easily be a top 15 pick. Adams would never be that careless with a potential high 1st like that, especially for a guy like Carter Hart. He's not Dorion.

sabres arent adding a goalie this off season. Hart to OTT might make some sense tbh

its good business to protect your picks on some level. even the sens top 5 protected the picks they gave up for chycrun because you really never know.

That's fine, try and get protection on it. I just don't think at this point it should hold up a trade.

I mean it should. Its not a lot to ask on the buyers side to have say top 10 protection on the pick they give up. That sort of mentality is how Stutzle wound up on the sens. No shade at hart, but he is far from a lock, and far from being the kind of player who would warrant not having any trade protection.

It is. That's how Ottawa got Stutzle as the other poster mentioned. A lot of people also wanted us to trade our 1st in 2021 before the Eichel + Hall season. Hard to predict what will happen with injuries & coaching. Also hard to predict how a new guy will fit on the team. If Adams was careless back then some other team would have Power on their roster.

That's fine, you guy's are probably right. But IMO if it's a trade you are set on and if the Sabres think that player fills a need and helps take you to the next level it shouldn't hold up the trade.
