Because I firmly believe trading Marner results in Matthews leaving so any trade for Marner you would have to make up for the loss of both which would never happen

Then just trade Matthews. If that is seriously what you feel isn't the right solution to get rid of toxic players like that and build around heart and souls guys.

Don't see many of those toxic guys playing for the cup right now.

Sabres fans used to call Jack Eichel "toxic." He's about to win a Cup.

I wouldnt say toxic it’s like Crosby and malkin I think Marner and Matthews are tied together and on this team and no team trades 25 year old 100 point players and think they getting better lol Brad already stated getting rid of 25 year old stars is not something teams want to do

The worst trade I've ever seen on this boards. LA will never consider a trade like this. Rob Blake can't even laugh before he hangs up. This is the biggest troll post I've ever seen.

First, makes no sense to trade Marner - pretty much impossible to get equal value back. Elite (top 3) winger in the league, elite at both ends - in his prime…why get rid of him? Not going to happen . But to add retention tells me you can’t possibly be serious

I know I have a realistic trade when both sides think it's bad for them.

Again my point above if you hate it and leafs fans hate it then it's a fair deal.

Also if you seriously think this isn't a deal that makes LA better you have no idea how good Sammy or Marner are.

LA doesn't consider this. They're looking to build around Byfield and Brandt AND they give up a 40 goal scorer and good 2nd liner. just not happening

Not necessarily true. It’s not really realistic in general.

No you don't. This trade is horrible for LA. Toronto fans might be mad because Marner leaves but if Toronto was offered that their GM would take it and run. LA Can't afford any of those guys cap wise. Kempe is a 2 way winger that just put up 41 goals on a average LA offense. I wouldn't trade him 1 for 1 for Marner. Marner is great but at $11m vs Kempe at $5.5m is nowhere near a deal. Samsonov has the same numbers as Copley. He's an above average goalie at best. Timmins does nothing on LA's loaded RHD side. And you want LA to add one of the best Dman prospects not in the NHL and a young developing forward prospect that looking better as each season goes on. You literally have no clue how bad that is for LA.

You think because some Toronto fans don't like it that it's a good deal. But when fans of other teams around the league tell you it bad for LA than you think the opposite. It's Leaf fans vs the league at this time.

Your analysis of Toronto's players really show your lack of knowledge.

Marner is Selke nominated, first line PP, first line PK. If you wouldn't trade him 1 for 1 for Kempe then you should genuinely go to your doctor immediately cause you have a serious issue.

These cap arguments people make are insane. I assume you wouldn't trade Kempe for McDavid either cause you don't want another $7M in cap space?

Not to mention the deal has retained salary on Marner.

Retained salary or not it is not a cost effective move that makes LA a better team. Marner at $11m or $9m is not more important than the lost of two players that you have to lose on his contract.

Marner at 30 goals and 99 points or Kempe & Arvidsson at 67 goals and 126 points. No way does LA lose that much offense for someone that isn't needed at the cost of their 2 top prospects. How dumb do you think people outside of the Toronto fan base are? Just because you don't think LA fans don't know hockey or aren't a hockey town doesn't mean a stupid trade like this is viable.

And Marner isn't McDavid. McDavid runs circles around Marner. You trade alot for McDavid but not Marner. McDavid carries a team and Marner gets carried by Matthews. But LA can't afford McDavid either, so that is a moot point too.

I'm sorry to tell you but in this NHL cap is King. You can't have a top heavy huge cap team and go deep in the playoffs (proven by Toronto). You need cap space to build a competitive deep team with depth (Vegas and Tampa).

Edit: I'm mean your whole build a GM team is about trading away your high price talent for depth. Which is proving my point.
