A year for the young guys

Created by: KDev

Description
Team has a lot of young guys they need to decide on. Tyce, Holtz, Clarke, Foote, Walsh are all on the cusp between the NHL and AHL.
This idea is to take a minor step back to fully assess if some of these guys can help the organization. Can’t fit them all so shipped Tyce out to join his brother, he’s been an injury problem so a change of scenery could help him. I think Walsh should make the team but you got Nemec right behind him, his days in NJ seem numbered. Moved him for TJ Brodie because I can’t help but feel this is a deal that benefits both sides.

Holtz need to figure it out this year or the team should cut ties. I think Clarke is a dark horse to make this team. Lead Utica in scoring last year and looks poised to make the jump. Fitzgerald clamors over Foote so I think he will come in as a 12/13th forward. Nemec also seems poised to make it though I think the team will try and find a stop gap as a just in case.

Yegor not likely to be of interest to Seattle, whom have plenty of forward depth, especially on the wing, and certainly not at that cost.

Other than the Stastny's of the 1980s and Sedins, when have teams ever validated the benefit of uniting brothers on the same team? Sabres aren't going to use a rare roster spot just to bring in Thompson's brother.

Because the cost is minimal and he could be a decent 4th liner. Also other brothers that were United.. Caleb and Seth Jones in Chicago, Cal and Nolan Foote in Tampa before Nolan as traded.. it happens.

I like the PIT, BUF, TOR trades.

But I think we should keep Yegor for one more season at least. We can sign him to 1-year deal or QO and he will still have another RFA window next summer. We can determine then what to do. (Also Clarke has waiver exemption).

Nemec - I am firmly in the 9-games-or-less-at-all-costs crowd. I really want to see his slide preserved. I see zero reason to rush him into 3rd pair (at cap cost of $5-6m in a few years).

Yeah I know Clarke is exempt but I don’t think he has much more to prove in the AHL

Would you rather have Clarke in AHL and Yegor in NHL…or no Yegor and Clarke in NHL?

Also, there was some talk about moving Clarke to center.

If the Devils can get a 2nd or equal value for Yegor I probably do it. As for Clarke I’m just a firm believer he can be a 20 goal 40 point guy that fits our system. While Sharangovich has already proven he’s that, I just don’t know if he fits us all that well. Not sure if Clarke is good enough defensively to play center in the nhl.
