Summer Moves

Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 13, 2023
Published: Jun. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seems like a lot of cap space to take back for the return, but I also feel Granlund can easily be bought out by Pitt. Both players packaged together may be the only way to receive a quality first round pick this year. Depends on if Petry includes Blackhawks on his no trade list, but given that he played for Richardson in Montreal I think that's not the case.

it's tough to give up that 14OA for cap dumps but i'd do it if im Dubas. Would give the penguins an extra $11.25M in cap

Hawks can do better. Take out the 2nd atleast. The price of dumping 22.5 mil of cap should be a 1st round pick with nothing going back. Pens fans won't like it but when half the league is at or over the cap, the cap ceiling barely going up again, very few teams willing to take dumps, it's all in favor of the teams that have cap space.

Granlund + Petry, especially because Petry forces a Z buyout and limits our ability to capitalize on Myers/VAN, will return the first with less coming back. Try a 3rd + Ian Mitchell, which is actually probably better for PIT in the short term, regardless.

I agree that it should take a 1st round pick to take on that cap hit, but this year it seems teams with a pick in the top 15 are going to ask for more to give up their pick. I hope I'm wrong.

Petry although a tad overpayed isn't really a cap dump, he still has value and played pretty well last season compared to popular belief, He just got unlucky with injuries.
