Marner has 2 years left on his contract and will be a valuable asset for a trade in the future, if he does not sign an extension. Regardless, Keller wants out and you will not get any better of value in return than this. It’s not “the core fours” fault every player wants out of Arizona. Besides, Arizona has been in a rebuilt for 10 years.

Arizona needs Voracek and Weber to circumvent the cap floor. They are injured and their salary is covered by insurance, so keeping them on IR pushes them over the cap floor without costing them money.

Unless it’s to sign Matthews next year and save the franchise, and Marner re-signs to play with Matthews.
