The defensive moves are based on Pesce not wanting to return to Carolina

I thought Nino would still be a good fit for the Hurricanes even given the cap hit

Edmonton declines, Brett Pesce will cost far more to resign than Evan Bouchard.

I mean Pesce is exactly what Edmonton needs a defensive defenseman at his peak... Edmonton moves out an offensive defenseman of which they have more than enough of for a defensive-defenseman which they do not have enough of. Edmonton is in win-now mode and Pesce will help them

Edmonton easily declines

big part of why their power play was historic was Bouchard, they dont need to trade that production under any circumstances

Winnipeg is going to burn it down to the studs and Nino's a rental... he seems like a prime candidate to get moved and we're basically paying you the same price that you paid for him

Your PP will still be very very good without Bouchard and you get to fix one of your team's glaring weaknesses. Pesce is a very good defensive defensemen and you guys need help on the defensive end

If we move Bouchard out for Pesce we still have the same issue at RD being a weak spot. He's not available.

Bouchard will probably get a 3 year bridge in the range of $3,500,000 to the $4,000,000 per range. I would imagine that Pesce gets at least $5,500,000 per for a maximum of 8 years if not slightly more AAV.

No, you won't... Pesce is a very solid defensive defenseman and is a good fix what ever you call that that defense you had last year

Pesce is probably in the 5-6 year range rather than 8
And 3 years/ $4m for Bouchard is absolutely doable

WPG may or may not burn it down. Fans hope they will. But, Nino is worth more than the Jets paid for many reasons. The younger Jets will need a Role Model. Nino is FAR more valuable than a 2nd for what he brings to the club in heart, skills, and leading the next gen.

Ok and then who after Pesce? Cody Ceci?? It does nothing for us whatsoever it just gives us the older more expensive player. Bouchard isn't being moved out for Pesce

Perhaps doable for Carolina, but i doubt it's doable for Edmonton.

Yah that's exactly why I want him to come to Carolina... he'd be a good role model for Jarvis and the other younger players

I don't know about who after Pesce but Pesce is a very good defensive player who can help fix your problems and he'll probably be pretty good for another half decade if not more. You will probably have to pay to dump Cody Ceci's contract and pick up somebody new

Then you are smart. Thus why he's more valuable than the 2nd. On top of that, he's a 200' gamer who goes to the net, into the corners, etc... years left of good play.

One player doesn't fix a whole defense. If Edmonton brings in Pesce it's to have him play behind Bouchard to add stability to Nurse. Picking up a top 4 RD isn't nearly as easy as it seems. The only one was just signed for 6 million over 8 years in Severson (shows how much you have to overpay to get one). Bouchard is far too valuable to Edmontons lineup. I can see Broberg, Savoie and our 1st being moved out for him tho

I mean he'd be a good middle six guy on our team right next to Staal and Martinook

Well, it's going to require a lot more than Pesce but he's a very good start. Edmonton just doesn't have enough balance on their defensive pairs and Pesce helps with that balance to help them become a lot better defensive team. I mean I'm sure the canes could pick up one of your team's awful contracts (Maybe a Cody Ceci) and add picks and prospects to make up the difference. I was thinking something along the lines of the Mattias Ekholm deal

Yeah sure that works, just doesn't make sense for Edmonton to give up a big part of their defense. Only futures or young player (Borberg,Holloway, Bourgault) with contracts (Yams,Ceci, etc.) to equal it out are available.

Borberg is somebody that I could definitely see being a Hurricane. I'd just like him to have a little bit more seasoning at the NHL level. I just don't know you guys fix your team without completely overhauling either your defense or your system

I don't think our team is like nearly as bad as you're suggesting. Up to this point we have given the potential cup champs the closest series by far, consistent positive regular season results, best top six in the league (yeah I'll go there), a young all-star goalie signed at 2.3 million over the next 2 years and a d-core just missing one more RD. With young depth coming up the system, I'm more concerned what Carolina is gonna do considering they can't score a goal to save their lives and their entire d-core either needs new contracts or is retiring over the next 2 years lmao

Carolina is pretty average in terms of scoring and is an elite defensive team. They also played the entire post-season without two of their top six forwards which accounts for some of their scoring issues. I mean I get the concern about the D-Core but we have one of the best prospects coming over from Russia in the next year to solidify that D-Core. Kocketkov looks average to above-average starter which is all the hurricane system needs. We'll probably lose Pesce or Skjei but Honka should be ready to play in the big show next year or the year after that at the latest. I'd also say the Hurricanes have the advantage of having a top-three coach behind the bench and some prospects ready to join the show next year. I'm not saying that your defense is bad... I'm just saying that your glut of offensive-defensemen tend to lend to defensive collapse come playoff time

Disregard that trade. Canes will not be dealing for Nino. All yours. We'll hang on to the 2nd. Deal?
