Defense needs some changes but Armstrong said he won't be buying out any contracts (FWIW I think Scandella should def be bought out) and you're missing Perunovich who should(!) be healthy and ready for a full time spot. I think he finds a taker for Leddy with some money retained and hopefully drafts a couple quality d-men, then they can develop some guys and Krug/Faulk will get closer to the end of their contracts which could reduce risk and increase their tradeability.

Nice now you've traded Parayko for a 3rd undersized puck moving only defenseman, Granlund who is a 3rd line player being paid 10m over he next two years and doubled down by giving Scott Mayfield a contract similar to Leddys.

This is why i dont understand the constant push to dump salary on a defenseman or how that makes sense to anyone.

We could stand to remove one of our higher cap hit defenseman. But it's not to just turn around and offer an equally dumb Scandella/Leddy type of deal to try and stop-gap which turns into trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Krug is probably the only defenseman that it makes sense to dump. That's only due to us having Perunovich in the system. But there's reason to be cautious there as well. You're removing a big portion of the powerplay production with Krug gone. Forgot to add in Scandella here along with Krug. More of a non-factor though with shorter term. Can probably fetch a late round pick at 50% at the deadline anyways.

Brutal parayko trade

Something's gotta give. I agree the Pens might be a trade partner for our defensive woes, as Parayko, Krug, Leddy and/or Scandella would probably waive their NTC's to go there. The issue is going to be the structure of the deal and what's coming back.

Both teams want to shake things up, a Pens/Blues trade could definitely happen. Not sure if this is it (haha) but it's a good trade partner.

You could remove Parayko from the deal and the Blues still pass.
