I have a hunch he will actually sign a deal like this $1M for 5+ years. Because it's under the amount you can send to the minors. He just had a kid. Why not sign this instead of doing 2-3 years at $1.5-2M? When he isn't good enough send him to the Marlies and let him be the captain there. He can mentor the young guys and his family has financial security and stability for ages.
