Outside of Pesce, That offer isn't even close for Erik Karlsson. Especially with $4,500,000 being retained for 4 years.

We aren't.

This is illogical for a numbers of reasons:

1. Burns and Karlsson are redundant. Offensive dmen with defensive weaknesses. As other said, it was problematic in SJ.

2. Karlsson is high risk/high reward and Carolina has a wide open competitive window. Karlsson could EASILY revert back to being a liability and ruin the cap structure of Carolina. A team at the end of their window (PIT, WSH, BOS, VGK, etc.) should be pursuing him as he is worth the risk to them.

3. Carolina needs forward production. They had the best offensive production from dmen in the league this year. This will exacerbate their problems not correct them.

I was actually thinking about EK and the Canes this morning…I see a lot of comments about how Burns and EK didn’t work in SJ. However, the situations couldn’t be more different. If they would be able to find a AAV effective solution for EK and keep Pesce - it works like a glove. Pesce can play the left side, he did successfully in the 19-20 season with Faulk.

I think EK would make Skjei the piece that would be out, not Pesce. How much value does Pesce bring to this deal for SJ. Would it be possible with Skjei instead?

Was mentioned in an Athletic article the other day as a possible destination for an EK trade. Pure speculation and even in the article under Canes section author admitted it’s extremely unlikely and doesn’t really fit the needs of the Canes unless A LOT of things change this offseason.
