I’m starting to get kind of sick of these “pundits” and their ideas for what the Leafs need. Every year it’s the same thing, they need more grit, they need more this. Then that guy gets here, he’s a stiff, and we collectively run them out of town. Matt Larkin from Daily Faceoff said the Leafs need a “Tom Wilson type” or something he calls “heavy skill”. Then like everyone else asking for a Tom Wilson type, doesn’t have any examples. That’s because there’s like 10 guys in the whole league who can do that, and that list barely includes Tom Wilson who wasn’t good last year and/or was hurt. I did a couple of searches on Money Puck and came up with some options that make sense and some that are a bit off the board so I tried adding as many as I could and we will see what happens….
Players with 200+ hits and over 50% xG: JT Miller, Sammy Blais, Garnet Hathaway… end of list
Players with 150+ hits and 19+ expected goals: (I cheated a bit because the list was too short)
Timo Meier, Nino Niederreiter, Vinny Trochek, Alex Ovechkin, Lawson Crouse, Jason Zucker, Brady Tkachuk, JT Miller, Sam Bennett, Jordan Staal, Scott Laughton, Adam Lowry, Brandon Tanev.
Honourable mentions/other standouts:
JG Pageau: the Isles have 5 centers and may be willing to move one of them, not 100% sure what they would want. Pageau routinely has 160-180 hits, great on the draw, kills penalties. He stands out for me because he can slot between Tavares and Marner. Does trading Lilly for him make sense? Maybe?
Yakov Trenin: he could probably be had from the Preds. Big hitter and had 13 goals last year but probably not a top 6 guy and probably not worth the acquisition cost.
Ross Colton: he’s too expensive for the Leafs, I just love Ross Colton and wanted to mention him.
Nick Ritchie: hahahahahahaha just kidding. Seriously though, Ritchie is a big hitter, he’s somehow a positive corsi player, and he had 13 goals last year. But also, no.
That is literally zero sum gain for SJ sending a conditional 1st to take a cap dump. Get real. Were actually paying to take a cap dump. I inow youre new to hockey but that isnt how cap dumps work kid. Try again.

Wait what? Oh is that Jersey pick a conditional 1st? I did not know it was a conditional 1st so that’s my bad. Yeah, no way the Sharks do that. It just says 2nd on the armchair gm. I will fix it.
You must have thought that was an error. What idiot would try to get more back than they’re giving up?
Appreciate the explanation& creativity but you lost me at JG Pageau centering Mitch or Willy & JT? Dude caps out at 40 points per year - he is nowhere near skilled enough to play with those guys. And far too expensive for a 3C, I’d pass on that trade
