Not a bad offer but the Flyers aren't using a retainment spot on TK nor should they have to since his contract is extremely reasonable. Foegele (or Yamamoto if you prefer him) in the deal is your "retention."

Schmidt, 18, and Montreal's 2024 2nd for Sanheim and 22 works for the Flyers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>I would argue full price, but possibly splitting hairs, with the abundance of left handed dman out there, yes he possibly prefers the offhand side, so a little more benefit. But that term could turn ugly if he slows down, and coming off a bit of a off year and in the middle of a fire sale, I think the price could be less to offload that term on a rebuild. Pretty sure the elkhorn farm boy would be excited to waive for Winnipeg. So not going to bad mouth him anymore.</div></div>
My point is the price above is baked into the term being too long. If he didn't have a contract with that term he would go for a first round pick and more. Worse defenseman than Sanheim are consistently traded for comparable packages even as pending UFAs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Don’t mind the idea of it, but done as a bargain, rather than full price, that’s a ton of term to eat if it goes bad. Lots of change over up front, so possibly some moves to rebuild the blueline, got to make room or get rid of heinola, also time to decide on Dillon and demelo on contract years, rfa samberg could probably return something decent, so not opposed to trading or a longterm contract. Pionk I would like to see given a partner that works and possibly shined up for a nice deal at the deadline or extended. Morrissey is morrissey probably just left alone, but with his size probably nice to add a little size around him. Stanley can be added into a deal, he needs a change of scenery.</div></div>
That is the bargain price. I'm not a huge Sanheim fan so you will get no argument from me that the contract isn't the greatest. The aav is fine, and will look good in a few years. The term is about three years too long though. Either way, if he were signed for 4 or 5 years he would easily go for a first and high level prospect based on what 2nd pairing D go for.
The Flyers can also take back some salary with the deal as currently constructed. Nothing long term though without any additional assets coming back. We could take back Dillon or Wheeler for example.

So you mean to tell me the Flyers give up 22 and 7 to get 5, and they also get so lucky as to have to give up 93 and take on a cap dump contract. Amazing deal, where we sign up.

Hayes went for basically nothing. That means the Flyers were going to get 25 OR 29 and Krug for Sanheim. That should be the template for a Sanheim deal, a contract with some term and a late first or early second.

Krug, unless in the right circumstance at 4.875 still isn't a great value. He has to be on a 3rd pair 5v5, there's no way around it. He is really good at QBing a PP but that's a big financial committment for a special teams player.</div></div>

So no sanheim
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>I would imagine Scandella wouldn't be included in a deal and it would fit the format of just Hayes to STL. I'm more concerned about the implications against the cap after this coming season. The UFA classes are slotted to be alot better and we most likely aren't competing with or without Hayes. It doesn't make alot of sense in my mind for a trade for Hayes to happen in general unless the Blues are convinced that Hayes is a character guy that they need to help in the room.
Regardless, with this whole debacle the Blues have some serious moves they need to consider because having a guy block a trade after 3 years ago letting your captain walk because a NMC "gives more power to the player than the organization" is a bad look. Now factor in it's the guy you signed to replace him that's now showing that NTCs can still do the same thing and it's not going to be received well at all.</div></div>
You might be right. I'm just speculating. This is an extremely odd situation at this point for things to have been dragged out this long on a deal that was supposedly done almost 24 hours ago. I don't think anyone knows and we are all in the same boat speculating. Quite honestly, I am prepared for Hayes at 50% to St. Louis for something like a late round pick, Hayes at 50% for Scandella for a 2nd or 3rd, and even some form of the originally reported deal with Krug changing his mind or his agent and Briere finding a 3rd team to take him. In other words, nothing would surprise me at this point.

The Pens easily do. They get Krug for only 4.8 million and and a 2023 4th for a 2024 2nd. Considering the 2023 draft is way stronger and the pick they get is a year sooner that is barely a loss for them. They essentially get Krug retained to under 5 million for nothing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>They'd be lucky to get a 3rd even with Hayes at 50%. That's still 3 years of a bottom end player being paid 3.6m. Johansen trade is probably pretty comparable esp given the extra year tacked on to Hayes.</div></div>
I disagree. Johansen was bad last year and had a terrible injury. He has also only had one good year over something like the last five. Hayes is coming off of a really good season. He and Torts just don't see eye to eye. Hayes at 50% is also cheaper than Johansen at 4 million.
Lastly, and if I didn't explain this properly that's on me, but I believe any deal would involve the Flyers taking back salary as well, with Scandella being most likely. If the deal is Hayes at 50% (3.5 million) and Scandella (minus 2.3 million) I see no reason why the Flyers shouldn't get a 2nd or 3rd.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>xercuses</b></div><div>I doubt they get a first now with Krug not going back or Sanheim not involved
But a 2nd? Yea maybe</div></div>
I still think some form of the "original deal" gets done. There is obviously work being done to try to make that happen otherwise there would already be something like Hayes at 50% for Scandella and a 2nd or 3rd.
Krug doesn't want to play for a rebuilding team and rightfully so, but I can't imagine he is thrilled about playing for a team who wants to dump him. Sanheim signed an 8 year deal a few months ago and the team (also rightfully so) wants to get out it since they are rebuilding. I can't imagine he's thrilled at the idea of coming back and playing for a coach who he doesn't fit with.
My best guess is that Briere and Krug's agent are working together to find a 3rd team that's a match and if they can do that other details like retention, compensation, this that and the other can be finalized. Not an easy task and it will take some time.
What also leads me to believe this is that the TDA trade to Carolina hasn't been announced. There is nothing complicated about him at 50% for a prospect which means that deal should be done. Maybe that is contingent upon what happens here and if the Flyers find a taker for Krug and have to retain they don't want to use their last retainment slot on TDA so they would keep him or just buy him out. If the St. Louis deal just ends up being Hayes they would do the TDA deal.
All speculation on my part but I feel pretty confident that something of this nature is going on today and probably even started last night. It could be Monday or even Tuesday before this is resolved.

Use some common sense. The Flyers aren't tying up one of their 3 retainment spots for 8 years. Second, if you are getting Sanheim for only 3.25 million you can double that price you think you would get him for. Back to the drawing board for you.
