There's no way SJ is retaining 4 years at 4 mil AAV on EK65. 3 mil AAV at the most in my opinion. Hard to include a 3rd team in this trade because, what's in it for them? Hard for them to get any value retaining 1.75 mil for 4 years. It's like paying for a buy out player.

I'd hope they would. Hell, even retain 50%. They aren't competitive and won't be for a few years at minimum, might as well utilize the cap space for a better return.

But after the Burns trade, I'm also skeptical that Grier would retain that much. Maybe he'll change his mind now that he knows he royally fumbled the Burns trade.

Also, so much uncertainty surrounding Knight, which will make or break this trade.

Knight has had some off the ice issues. I won't get into that. But it's hard to gauge his trade value right now.

Yeah, 3M would put him at a comparable amount with other top defenders. I can see them try to bring in a 3rd team to retain 1.5M-2M (around 5-7M in total salary) with SJ doing 2M-2.5M. I think the team would be Chicago but I can only imagine what they would want for compensation. Ultimately, it probably wouldn't work
