You should ask for a center in a Gibson trade.
I don't think 3 top-line centers (Zegras, Fantilli, McTavish) is enough!!!

No one is paying anything for a goalie that hasn’t been good since 2019.

I mean, him being on one of the worst defensive-teams in recent years doesn't help.

There are stats that take team strength into account (goals saved above expected) dude is badly underwater on every stat and getting worse each year. Hilarious that ducks fans - putting together a nice group of prospects - are clinging to a badly fading goalie with an albatross of a contract but 🤷🏻
Sabres are a dangerous team - much better goalies they should be targeting

You bring up an interesting question. Should Anaheim retain on Gibson? The buying team wouldn't directly be paying for the retention, but Anaheim may find a better market by retaining and indirectly receive compensation for the retention. Kinda like ek65. Nobody that's looking for an offensive d on the wrong side of 30, has 11.5m in free cap for the next few years. If they retain down to 8m, there should be teams interested, the buying teams would be indirectly paying for retention but literally only because the market allowed for it.

I don’t see what they gain by keeping him. And I agree with retention (Ducks should have cap room for a while given minority’s elc’s) should get a better return

I believe the package is more then fair. They get a former first round pick who had great season in AHL. He fits perfectly in your timeline. A young promising goalie with NHL experience. That is equilvalant to two 1st round picks. Not sure how you can argue he is worth more then that. If anything that is an over pay.

It's a fair offer, depending on how much you value Rosen it might be an overpay. You may have lost me if you are suggesting upl is worth a first. There isn't a single team in the NHL that's giving you a first for upl, I don't think you can assign a player as having first round value if literally nobody would give you a first for that player. To follow that idea through, there's very few goalies I would move a first for.
