Trades
1.
NYI
  1. 2023 6th round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Mayfield, Scott
Additional Details:
Isles trade the rights to Mayfield. Trotz signs Mayfield for 3.5M for 4 years.
2.
VAN
  1. Bailey, Josh
  2. 2024 4th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Reports are saying that Vancouver is just looking to dump basically for free to get our of his 5M contract for the next 3 years. Isles can give Bailey for 1 yr at 5M which help Van save 2 years of Garland's contract and we'll add a little sweeten with a 4th rounder to boot.

Isles would not give a high pick to help Vancouver shed their cap problems. So no chance of a 1st or 2nd rounder
3.
CBJ
  1. Pageau, Jean-Gabriel
Additional Details:
After Columbus traded for Provorov and Severson, plus Boqvist will be back next year. There is no room for Peeke. Pageau a good 3rd line center, very good face-off and penalty killer, and well as give you 40+ points a year. Both contracts end in 2026. Make sense for both clubs.
4.
NYI
  1. Colton, Ross [RFA Rights]
TBL
  1. Holmström, Simon
  2. Salo, Robin
  3. Wilde, Bode [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
TB has big cap problems. They are keeping the core of Stamkos, Point, Kucherov and Cirelli. They need younger cheaper players who can compete and fill out roster. Salo a good young offensive Defensemen who is stuck in the minors with the Isles Defense set with the big club. Holmstrom, young smooth 2 way winger. Both around $800K makes sense for TB. Ross is going to want at least 3-3.5M, which I don't think TB can afford. They can get 2 or 3 players for that amount. Wilde is a wild card, he was a very promising D-men coming out into the draft. Lou soured on him because of his Covid stance and basically banish him.

Nashville can’t take on another D man. We just don’t have space

I thought if this only because Mayfield was a Trotz favorite when he coached our team.

Helping the Canucks with their cap problems by giving them no cap savings and forcing them to give up the far superior player? Yeah right….

If he was willing to waive, it probably makes more sense for VAN to target JGP as their 3C. They could send back Garland and a pick, not sure what round.

you would save 2 years of Garland contract - savings of 10M....so yeah, I consider that helping them out.

We wouldn't want a pick. You taking Bailey for 1 yr helps our cap as well this year. You guys save 10M the following 2 years

I mean we got 5 NHL RD rn. We have to move someone or even two of them to take on another

So you'd propose the new deal to be JGP and Bailey for Garland?

No, not giving JGP for a player Van is looking to dump for free.

And after the OEL buyout VAN won't need to give anyone away for free. Even Myers will likely stick around most of the season and they can get a pick for him at the deadline with some salary retention.

That doesn't help either team. You guys get JGP at 5M until 2026. We get garland for 4.95M until 2026. So where is the savings for either club? Vancouver wants to shed salary to have flexibility.

If you do Garland for Bailey and a pick. Van salary wise breaks even in 2024 but in 2025 and 2026, Van saves in total 10M.
We need to move Bailey's 1 yr (5M) for salary issue for next year (2024) to resign some of our UFAs.

I get your reasoning on the one year of Bailey. The problem is that Allvin clearly wants to compete this season, and a big part of that will be finding a capable 3C and improving the defence. So moving a winger for a lesser winger doesn't help them this season, even if it's a better long-term cap situation.

Why don't we throw in Quinn Hughes as well? You'd be helping us out by getting rid of 8 mil for 4 years

Garland is a good player. Bailey is not. It is not the same. Canucks are losing a good player in this trade for what? Garland actually has value. Bailey does not

Ok no problem, just going by reports online they want to move him to basically for nothing to rid them of the salary.

Those reports happened before the Canucks got 7 mil in cap relief from OEL buyout

Moving Garland for nothing was if we took nothing back for THIS season and BEFORE buying out OEL. This deal isn't even accomplishing that as we take on a higher cap hit for THIS season. We dont need to move his 4.95M for 2024-2026. By next season as long as he continues his career norm of 15-20 goals, 50 points, he will be worth a 2nd + when the cap jumps up to 87-90M.

So this deal has us giving up the much, MUCH better player for a 4th and negative 50k in cap space and the loss of a future 2nd + next off-sesaon once the cap hikes up. Players of Garland's caliber were already getting 4.5-6M in UFA last off-season. once the cap hikes up, they'll be getting 6--7M making him underpaid and worth a decent return

If you want to take Garland for free sure, but if you want to give us Bailey back, we want at least a 2nd round pick attached to Bailey. Otherwise we'll just wait a year and look to trade Garland then.

At 3 TB re-signs Colton up to about 3.5 above the hat is pushing. TB defenseman Julien Brisebois acquired under 200lbs Frederick Cleasson 197;in 5 years sali doesn't fit the TB model for Defensemen. All these pieces seem like 2 years away. Which doesn't work for TB timeline.

We like the player, we need the cap space. Why trade him now if we aren't gaining space or addressing a team need?

In a yr we have expiring contracts, a yr after more. So this doesn't help much. If the Isles add a strong sweetener it could be considered.

I appreciate the feedback, I understand where you are coming from. Unfortunately Old man Lou just throws away our draft capital like it's a piece of gum.
