Description
Hawks draft

#1 - Bedard
#14 - Wood 6'4" RW 197 lbs
#19 - Barlow 6'0" LW 195 lbs. These (3) picks will form 1 great line IMO. Great Leadership, Hockey IQ, Compete.
#28 - Lukas Dragicevic (Big risk here imo. But he's got size and needs 3-4 years of defensive development, but again...down the road could be a valuable piece)
#35 - Oskar Fisker
#44 - Bonk (might not be available here)
#49 - Danny Nelson
#99 - Trey Augustine

The UFA's are really going after the tier 2 guys on short term deals because the cap is supposed to go up next year. Guys like ROR, Kaner, Tarasenko, Barbashev...etc...are all getting their money. It's already a tight cap space situation which will ultimately leave some guys out. This is where the Hawks need to make work. They're also flippable during the year for additional picks as well. If the Hawks take a macro approach towards many 1 year deals for tier 2 guys...at least 1 of them will work out and be able to get flipped.

After Bedard, you're drafting 3 guys who are all average to below average skaters. That doesn't seem like the mold Davidson wants to fill. I could see Barlow, but Wood and Dragicevic being ranked as particularly not good skaters is a huge turn off for me.

Pens decline, hoping for Matthew Wood at 14, myself, haha. Dickinson doesn’t interest me at all and Granny’s an easy buyout.

hmmm interesting offer. I'd consider it for pittsburgh. They could probably get a really solid player with their 14OA, but this moves granlund, adds a bottom six forward and three 2nd round picks.

I disagree that Granny is an easy buyout. It goes for 4 years. It's not just this year. That'll hurt for the rest of the Crosby era.

I don't know man, i get the buyout for Granlund being the easy route, and it's $833k this year on the cap, but the next three seasons its $1.8M on the cap, + J. Johnson's you'd be almost at $3M in dead cap through 2026 and in the final years of Malkin/Crosby i'd rather have every available dollar.

I'm not sure Wood falls to 14 and you get three seconds plus a bottom 6 forward. You could easily flip Dickinson and if they wanted they could probably flip 2 of those seconds and prospect back into the 1st round.

Being a DEEP draft like everyone under the sun is saying should mean those 2nd rounders are more valuable than historically too. The big reason the hawks do this is that no team should try to draft every player in the 2nd round. Just poor draft management.

Not as much as you think. $1.83M for the following theee years and the cap is projected to resume climbing after this coming season. Much better option than losing a first rounder over a cap dump and picking up a fairly useless player that can easily be gotten UFA. Keep the pick.

I’m not sure Wood will be there, either. Something tells me Buffalo would like another Tage Thompson. But I’d still take the shot at an elite player and, at the very least wait until I saw who was available at 14 before I did anything. At any rate, I have zero interest in Dickinson. The Pens will have plenty of interest in 14, interesting to see what happens.

agree on that interest!

Personally i'd prefer they trade the 14oa for either a top 4 D or Top 6 winger (or starting goalie)

Wouldn’t shock me. I’d think they won’t buyout Granny, if they do at all, until the 30th, when all trade possibilities have been explored at the draft. Might be an eventful couple of days for the Pens.

Really like the collection of picks you've accumulated. Not sure I agree w/ all the selections, but 7 picks in first two rounds! Sign me up!
