Rationale for this would be that Michkov is willing to come over next season only if picked by the caps which is realistic due to ovechkin and Russian presence on the caps team. Lots of other moving parts with his contract and the KHL but who knows what’s really going on

There is no way they get Michkov to come over next season, maybe Ovi can work some magic the year after but I cannot see him coming over with that contract immediately.

(I read the description, I swear!!!!! tears of joy)

I mean, it's been widely reported that he's under contract until 2026 (I think he even confirmed this). Not sure how anyone gets around that, but who knows...

Keep the extra picks. If he falls to ARI he's falling to the Caps.

I don't know...I can see the logic on both ends, but the thing that sticks out is that Arizona would likely be completely fine letting him stew for a bit on someone elses dime, while the rest of the prospects develop on their end.

Don't think the 3 years of having no control over a players development would be as big of a deal to them as it would be for a lot of other teams.

Ovi: "We'll send you Kuzy and a years supply of blow to keep him rolling if you let Michkov come across early..."

I would take that deal as a caps fan, I am ready to see Kuzy leave and I have been saying that since 2020

I'm all for the back door deals and shady business agreements getting Michkov here sooner but according to what we know, Michkov has to buy out his contract from the KHL and his KHL team has to AGREE to it also.

I know everyone is quoting the Jagr draft scenario and extrapolating to Michkov but the NHL-KHL agreement is making it way harder than it was for that.

To my understanding, the NHL would not ratify a Michkov NHL contract until his contract in KHL is completed or bought out and accepted. There is no way around this.

If papa Ovi can pull some strings to make things happen, great but it still has to happen in the order mentioned above.
