K-Dev takes on every team 2 Arizona

Created by: KDev
Team: 2023-24 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2023
Published: Jun. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The plan: continue the rebuild

This team is far off imho. They have some really good prospects on the way but I just don’t see this team being very competitive.

Strengths: Cap flexibility, Prospect Pool
Weaknesses: pretty much the entire active roster

They have great pieces in Keller, Shmaltz and Guenther but they need a lot more help. Number 1 priority is to keep Keller and keep him happy. Show him the vision and the direction of where this team is going because he is monumental and you need to show both fans and players that players want to stay in Arizona.

They have plenty of cap space so they should utilize the space. Not only will it help them get to the cap floor but they’ll be able to gain assets from it. They should also look into finding some underutilized young guys they can steal.

Lastly I think trading Vejmelka would be a very good move the Coyotes. By the time they truly start to turn the corner he will be a UFA and will get a nice raise. With a very weak goalie market I think they can do very well.

The team is far, but with some smart moves they can totally start a push for the playoffs in as soon as 2 years.

My prediction: 8th in the Central

Arizona fans let me know what you think, I put a lot of thought into all of these I do

ARI
  1. Boucher, Tyler
  2. Gambrell, Dylan [RFA Rights]
  3. Meriläinen, Leevi
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
*Conditional pick*
If the Senators make the playoffs and Vejmelka plays in at least 50% of regular season games, the 2024 2nd becomes a 1st.

Why Ottowa does this:

Ottowa really needs a goalie and they also really want to turn the corner and be a playoff threat. I’m not sure if Forsberg is good enough for a starters job on his own.
They send a conditional 1st, a former 1st round player in Tyler Boucher that honestly doesn’t seem worth his draft selection, a goalie prospect and an RFA bottom 6 roster player for 2 years of a solid starter at a great cap hit.
OTT
  1. Vejmelka, Karel
Additional Details:
Why Arizona does this:

Capitalize on a good asset in a depleted market that they know won’t be around when the team starts to turn the corner.
2.
ARI
  1. Murray, Matt
  2. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
  3. 2024 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Why Toronto does this:
They can avoid buying Murray out and only drop a few spots in the draft and lose a mid round pick.
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Why Arizona does this:
28-38 isn’t a huge jump but they get their starter for next year and an extra pick next year
3.
ARI
  1. Yamamoto, Kailer
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Why Edmonton does this:
Avoids a buyout while only dropping a bit in the draft
EDM
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Why Arizona does this:
They get a young player they might be able to figure out while also moving a few spots up in the draft
4.
ARI
  1. Reilly, Mike
  2. 2023 6th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Why Boston does this: avoids a buyout for a late pick

(I know Boston fans are saying the buyout penalty isn’t bad but I feel like if the cost is only a 6th Boston would probably do it?)
BOS
    FC

Why Arizona does this: free pick and a defender they can use

Edmonton doesn’t pay a cent to get rid of Yamamoto. The narrative that he’s negative value is dead now to the reports that there are teams willing to take him on for free. He’s 24 years old and has scored 20 goals… never understood the negative value

I think Boston does that deal. They won’t give up a pick in the top 5 rounds, but I think with retention and playing time that he can play as well as Gottsbiere
