Description
Are there any prospects/younger players close to NHL ready that we can get with the #14 pick? I really feel we need to surround the core with some young talent. I think Poehling has tons of potential and I think Poulin can be pretty good as well. But I feel we need a real impact player in that category if we want to contend. My idea is instead of using that pick to get a prospect that will be ready in 2-3 years trade for one who is almost ready already. I am wondering if there are any players like that who we could maybe get with the 14 pick? My idea is for Marco Rossi but curious to hear others.

Why is this trade constantly suggested? Rossi MIGHT have a very good future. However, he was terribly out of place in the NHL last year. No chance Dubas is trading the 14th overall for a huge question mark. Better to package it for a sure thing than on Rossi.

I wouldn't say Minnesota does it...Rossi *should* be in the NHL next year, and his low cap hit will be extremely valuable for a team that (one would think) wants to be a playoff team, that's also going to be tight up against the cap. Can't imagine 14OA plays this year (let alone next?), which isn't really what Minny needs (IMO at least...).

I'd say you're looking more at a Dach/Romanov type (similar to last year)...someone on the last year of their ELC that has shown promise, and has a solid ceiling, but isn't *quite* there yet.

But I could be full of baloney tears of joy

the kings have a ton of young RFAs and they're simply not going to be able to sign them all. I'd love to trade for someone like Kupari from the kings, and you wouldn't need to give up the 14OA for that.

Personally think it's not worth trading the 14OA for a "near ready" young player. If they're trading that pick it needs to be for more picks (swaping 1st with another team and getting a 2nd + other picks) or it needs to be used to acquire 1 of a Top 4Dman, Top 6 winger or 1A goalie.

I agree though, would like to add more youth in there and i think Sullivan would like that as well. Poehling intrigues me a lot as well and i hope they bring him back. Unsure on Poulin however.

Wonder if the Pens should be looking at a cap strapped team would prefer the pick instead of signing an expensive RFA even if they can. The Rangers have two in Miller and LAF would might be available. Also DeBrincat should be traded by the Sens

I see the logic you're applying here, but believe many other teams have those same desires.

Minnesota is also in a pretty intense cap crunch, so they also require young players at low cost. I can't imagine a world where they move Marco Rossi - he's part of their future.

If I were to target anyone on the wild roster it would be Filip Gustavsson - he had a great season last year and is up for a new RFA deal, I'd imagine around 2.5 million. I wouldn't trade a first for him but that's the player that makes the most sense to me.

What do you think the cost is for Kupari and is he available do you think?

Nonono, just using last years 13OA for Romanov, then flipped for Dach as an example. I'd have to look at what's available, tbh, but that's the type of guy that I'd expect as opposed to Rossi (Not saying Rossi is great, or bad, just that I can't see Minny moving him yet).

I heard this guy in winnipeg named Mark Scheifele may have a pretty good future, or this guy in Ottawa named Alex Debrincat

I have no idea, can't be a 1st though, that's just far too much. He was a first rounder in 2018 but has split the last three seasons between NHL/AHL
