I thought signing him and Ekman larson was smart

The trades, mostly. But some of those UFA signings are pretty bad too. I'm also pretty sure they can't sign OEL after buying him out.

I thought the SJ trade was the worst thing here. Then I looked at the Kane contract. This is terrible

Why would you sign Patrick Kane to an 8-year extension when he's sitting on a hospital bed?
Do you expect him to be the same as he did with the Chicago Blackhawks years ago?

eh maybe SJ would be reluctant about sending Furlong but they are overloaded with LDs, so they might.
SJ would take this as is. I think it's close to fair
1st for 1 year 6m dump in Myers, 2nd for taking overpaid Garland, of which I could easily see Grier having interest in as he's a really gritty player
