The shake up that can make sense

Description
I understand the value could be low on the Arizona deal. I have seen some reports the price for Schmaltz won’t be high because Arizona wants off the real money on his deal. Wasn’t really sure how many assets to add then, So let’s assume Toronto can get it done even if they have to add more, as long as it isn’t knies.
Really like these two guys for the leafs, will put the puck in the net and have reasonable cap hits and term so you know what you have for a few years.
Nylander for Lindholm I think could happen if both players can’t work out a new deal and would sign with their new team instead.
Resigning matthews and Lindholm next summer really makes the cap tight for that season but it can fit and once JTs deal is up the following year there will be more flexibility again.
I like orlov and soucy to reshape the defence a bit. And again signed for a few years so you got some cost certainty, if the cap actually goes up a lot the next few years these deals won’t be a problem, even as orlov declines.

So everyone has either forgotten about the Mrazek deal that set the market for goalies getting moved or just ignore it to fuel their desire to see the leafs burn. It will not cost as much to move Murray as it cost to move Mrazek. So no it will not cost a first. The best goalie on the market this summer is Jarry. Guess what he is, an inconsistent goalie who can't stay healthy. Murray is going to make less than he will next season and has won 2 cups and won't need a minimum of 3 years term. Murray is not going to be problematic to move.

Leafs fans are ignoring the fact that Murray is getting 6-million in real cash. Ottawa also retained money and Murray has even worse sv% this year than with Ottawa.

I mean still a lot less than the nearly 25 million owed to Schmaltz over 3 years. I don’t think Murray would stop them from doing this deal. But if it’s that much of a sticking point, assume they move him elsewhere and attach a 3rd and 7th.

& why would moving Murray cost a 1st by itself? He has a cheap buyout and it’s only a 1 year contract. Those types of deals don’t cost a lot to move. It literally cost Ottawa only a 3rd and a 7th to move him and he had 2 years left on it. Yes they retained a bit, but how the hell does less term and less money make it cost more to move him? … just cause it’s Toronto. Lol.

I said ALMOST. It's harder to move his contract when the Leafs don't have 2nd round picks, since that would be the cost move him. Leafs fans are ignoring the fact that Murray is getting 6M in real cash - Why would Arizona who is trying to save money take on Murray's contract if the return isn't great? Hawks needed somebody to play goalie for them and they wanted to trade up and take Sam Rinzel. Which team needs a goalie so bad right now that they will take his 6M contract?

I think the likeliest and best scenario for the Leafs would be to buyout him. I will come back to this comment and laugh because nobody will take him for a lousy 3rd and 7th.

Didn’t feel like it was dumping him on NJD. You guys lost severson, gonna lose graves too? Thought Brodie help bridge the cap while Hughes and nemec get used to the league

He would be useful. We need a veteran to be stopgap to play with Luke that is…

(a) inexpensive to acquire
(b) has short-term contract
(c) has playoff experience
(d) has defensive focus
(e) can play high tempo system
(f) can play with rookie

We have no real salary constraints. So Brodie checks a lot of those boxes for us….unless he become expensive to acquire.

We could probably even take other salary to pay down the acquisition cost.

& again you’re forgetting that it only took a 3rd and a 7th to move him when his contact was twice as long and twice as expensive. And you and every other person on here seemingly forget that he has an incredibly cheap buyout format.

So please, tell me any justification that it would even take a 2nd to move him.

It only took a 3rd and a 7th to move him because Dubas was the Leafs GM haha. I will come back to this comment and laugh, because there is not single team who would take Murray's contract for less than a 2nd round pick.

Because Leafs are using NJD as a dumping ground here. I did not say Toronto would have to pay to move him…but the return will be muted when it’s cap-seeking deal.

It isn't a cap seeking deal, it's a stylistic change.

That’s kind of why I thought getting nylander who could flirt with scoring 50 for a few years with Huberdeau wouldn’t be a bad idea for them. Sucks for them all their UFAs want out but not sure a full rebuild is doable. Gotta maximize the guys they have. Defence is still strong there, markstrom should have a better year, gotta score move, nylander helps.

Sure but why would Nylander want to go there? He wants to be in TO and I think with the situation there he's going to get a deal done fast. He had to step in over his agent last time so I bet he makes sure to get it done asap.

No one is ignoring anything. Yeah he gets 6 million, but when the best available goalie is likely going to get 5 million and term, and that goalie isn't really better than Murray, why would that mean Murray is untradable? You can get him for basically nothing, hope he stays healthy and bounces back. Or spend major assets to get Halleybuck and hope he plays well despite his results not being all that great last 2 seasons.

Like I said.. a buyout is the more likely option because it’s cheap.

Very well. Keep him then. It’s only 1-year. He could take Timmins spot in lineup. Only 21 roster spots used, so wouldn’t have to pass anyone through waivers.
