V1 One more Run

Description
Despite Dubas comments about rebuilding our supporting cast while keeping our 1st this year and restocking our pipeline, I truly feel that limits the small inside chance ar one more Run. We have our top 6 coming off a great year and we could take a run in the next few years - considering the Cap going up. If it’s me, I’m much more aggressive. Here’s how I would approach it.

That Hanifin trade is unnecessary and highway robbery. With the addition of Graves, there is no need to trade for Hanifin. Also would rather have Ty Smith over Marc Staal.

Pretty pathetic offer for Hellebuyck. Jets want more considering he won the Vezina and was a finalist last season.

I don't think the Pens have the assets that they want due to Hextall.

TB really doesn't value picks. Make them Poulin, puustinen deal otherwise pass. TB isn't interested in picks

CHI won't pay a 2nd round pick for Ty Smith.

Doubt the Hawks would take Smith for F/C. No way do they use a pick on him.

14th overall, another pick, a b level prospect and roster player on short term is about right. Agreed he may fetch more, but hardly pathetic. And all I would pay - as we’ve seen more and more teams winning with 2 1B types

No really that much, but someone’s gonna have to overpay to get him. And next years pick not this year. Pettersson is overpriced by about 1.5M for what he brings.

Pens can’t defend. Ty Smith isn’t a 3rd pairing defender. He’s a 2nd paring offensive defensemen that is small and can’t defend at the NHL a level. Pens need a shut down tandem. Maybe take a flyer on someone like OEL that is 2way, but he can’t defend anymore either

That doesn’t have to be us when you already got Graves. And no shot that MP is overpaid. Not after the season he had last year and is just entering his prime. And even if you think MP is overpaid this year, what do you think Hanifin is going to look for in an extension? You’re robbing next year and the foreseeable future for a slight upgrade this year. That would be fine for a massive big name game changer. Not for a guy that’s only a slight upgrade. Especially since Calgary has no leverage due to the fact most of the team wants out and has already come out saying they refuse to sign extensions.

Marcus Pettersson is one of the better defensive minded defensemen in the league. So if that’s your issue, why trade him and a 1st for Hanifin? Lol that makes zero sense. Instead of trading Ruhwedel for Pennies just keep him and don’t sign Staal. A Rutta-Ruhwedel 3rd pair is still better than Staal

no way, pettersson is UNDERpriced by 1.5. he is a much better player than gavrikov for example. plus we have cost control on him hanifin will look for much more money than what he makes now.

Pettersson is sooo undervalued.

Petersson is a solid defender but doesn’t have the two way game to improve the top 4. He’s better as a 3rd pairing guy at around 3M max. Maybe a 2nd pair on a playoff team but not a contender. Aka us last year

Sure he does. He improved his offense massively last year. He is a solid 2nd pair that showed last year that maybe he can become a decent top pair defensive defenseman that can be the ying to Letangs Yang. Something like a prime Dumo. If I already have Letang to be an offensive juggernaut, I don’t need his partner to be one too. Just be competent. That’s why Letang and Dumo worked well for so many years. If there is anybody that needs replaced in the top 4 it is Petry.

He has Improved but he doesn’t do well on the Top pair and is still overpriced there for being that shut down guy next to Letang. He’s not prime Dumo on that end. I like the Dragon, I just think he’s a better 2 paring on an average team /solid but better as a 3rd on a contender- and because of that is overpriced. Agreed on Petry. And I’d be cool with Hanifin and Pettersson as a top 2 LD. Without Petry. Let Hanifin play that role. Albeit I have concerns as I mentioned above. It saying he can’t do it, just not ideal.

And bring in someone that can play top minutes and be a solid partner for Hanifan.
