What does Julien Brisebois have to do to prove to people he doesn't value picks? This is an utterly useless return for TB. What rational person believes this would be accepted by TB?

Shayna Goldman, apparently. I’d call her rational

Yeah man, shayna, a national analytics and fantasy writer, probably hasn’t followed the team that’s been in 3/4 most recent cup finals. Good call bud

Except TBL has made 11 trades around draft picks being received over the last 4 years

It's a very easy decline from Tampa. A 2nd round pick both does nothing for Tampa now, and it isn't enough anyway. It's great that a writer for the Athletic believes he may be worth something, and when they are an actual GM dealing with Tampa, Tampa fans might care. Tampa is very likely not trading Colton anyway, but if they were to, it would be for the deal they want, not accepting a mediocre return. If N.J. wants him, Tampa would consider it for Bahl+either Boqvist or McLeod, in exchange for Colton+Fleury+mid round pick/B prospect. If Bahl isn't available, Tampa moves on to.another team.

Too be fair, almost every one of those 11 trades were deals involving nothing but pick swaps, or players Tampa traded away who were either AHL'ers or guys they weren't going to resign anyway. None of these scenarios apply to Colton.

While the analytics may say that a 2nd rounder is a good return for Colton, this has little to do with the reality of building an actual roster. Trading Colton for a pick makes Tampa a weaker team headed into next season. They are in full blown "win now" mode. This has been discussed at nauseam on this site, but Tampa is going to make the deal that brings them the best possible NHL roster player(s) over a pick 10 times out of 10. Regardless of what Shatna's algorithms may say.

Yes. Your correct. A more accurate take would probably be "doesn't value picks in trades for players off their current NHL roster". Which could be inferred since were discussing Colton.

This is a stunning misunderstanding of what Shayna does lmfao

100% agree. When fans of other teams realize thls(it does seem though that 90% of the less than adequate Colton trades on here are from N.J. posters), there may be more reasonable discussion on a potential Colton trade.

Except for the small little problem that Tampa.doesn't need to dump Colton, and therefore won't be giving him away. It's like fans of other teams thinking they know another team's situation better than they do and then getting belligerent when fans of said team don't agree to terrible offers

Except, that's right, Tampa doesn't have to move Colton; when you and other N.J. fans understand that, maybe there will be something to discuss.

Okay, so when you consider the reports that Tampa is trying to extend Killorn and Colton has “priced himself out (3.5+), how does Tampa not need to dump him?
