Description
Would have to likely find new homes for Fabbri or Granlund to make cap space for extensions if they are on the high side.

Trades
1.
DET
  1. Gauthier, Taylor
  2. Granlund, Mikael
  3. Petry, Jeff
  4. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Dubas hates buyouts and only sees them as a last resort.
They clear 6.375M in cap this year and 8.875M next year, not including a Kubalik extension.
Pens get Chiarot who has been playing over 20 minutes a night last season but should excel in a lesser roll.
Penguins also get a good goal scorer in Kubalik who likely hits 30+ playing with Crosby or Malkin.
Mastrosimone free up a Pens fan and could likely slot into the line up as early as this year.
This would leave them more than enough space to sign the depth pieces they need to get back into as playoff contender.
Added some depth picks for a little extra value for the Pens.
PIT
  1. Chiarot, Ben ($2,375,000 retained)
  2. Kubalik, Dominik
  3. Mastrosimone, Robert [Reserve List]
  4. 2023 3rd round pick (DET)
  5. 2024 4th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
For Detroit we get someone to play 3C, who isn't bad defensively just struggled in Pittsburgh. Ideally he could revitalize his career with some strong play and regain some potential trade value in the future. If not he can be bought out next season to make room for younger players.
Petry fills a hole in the roster until we fill it internally. He can either play sheltered minutes with the responsible Maatta and likely excel with him or he can play mentorship roll with Edvinsson.
Gauthier just a goalie prospect that can play in the AHL or ECHL. If Daccord got called up for to injuries and gets claimed on waivers, we at least have a decent partner with Cossa in GR.
The real prize is #14 overall in this draft.
2.
DET
  1. Murray, Matt
  2. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Mixed reviews with this one, some Toronto fans are okay with it, others not so much.
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (VAN)
  2. 2025 4th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Added a future 4th for a bit more value going to Toronto.

Could really do without the Jarry, Killorn & Schenn signings.

We don’t really get enough in that TOR deal, I’d pass.

I think the PIT deal is fair.

I don’t hate the trade. Maybe a little tweaking on the picks coming back.
Mastrosimone has zero value. He’s going to be a UFA. Even if he’s willing to sign with the pens, they can just wait til UFA. I also don’t think he’d play in the nhl this year (at least not for a decent - good team. He’s had a meh college career, so he likely spends at least 1-2 seasons in the Ahl.
Kubalik definitely doesn’t play with Crosby, and possibly doesn’t play with Geno either depending on UFA signings but do like him as a 3rd line scorer. Not a fan of Chiarot coming back in the deal but with the 50% retention and getting out of Petry and Granlund makes it more than worth it.

Killorn is a stretch in my opinion but makes the team so much better and makes Kubalik expendable. A year less term and a bit less money would be ideal but I overpaid to get him here. 25-30 goals plus good play style, I personally think he's worth it. Biggest issue I see is down the road making room for players but that's a then problem.
Jarry can tandem with Husso. I don't know why people siht on him since he's consistently put up decent numbers. Taking a bit off his work load I think would do him wonders. My ideal contract would be 5M x 3 but again I overpaid to get him here.
Schenn is really underrated and showed it last season. He is a good shut down guy and he also led the league in hits last season. He should excel in a second or third pairing roll since most of last season he was playing top pair. I signed him to half of what Chiarot got since I sent Chiarot away at 50%, that way it's not really any different in terms of him for money.
I do the Toronto deal cause I want to get Bonk and he likely isn't there in the second round. It's literally just spending a couple million to move up in the draft. I wouldn't buy him out if I didn't sign Jarry.

I just overpaid to make sure I got my guys I want. Ideally I would sign them for less money and term.

I don't have Mastrosimone holding much value at all to be honest. Just a sweetener in a way. I think Chiarot at that aav is really good value. He could excel on a better team playing less minutes. Yeah put Kubalik wherever, just saying he could hit those numbers playing with those guys. Maybe we could tweak those depth picks a bit but I think the value is quite close

GMs don't just hand out first round picks.

TOR can just buy Murray out and PIT is in no position to be trading away 1sts.

I don’t think Schenn is better than Chiarot but if you do then the trade makes sense, otherwise it’s a pointless swap of players.

Dumbest comment ever? Please elaborate? Didn't trade away anything of value. Acquired more high end picks. Only issue is possibly paying too much for free agents. Those contracts or others will be off the books and the shouldn't affect any extensions.

Leafs trade makes sense. Very similar to the one they made to unload Mrazek last year.

Yeah I’m not sure acquiring more 1sts hurts the rebuild. I’d rather sign a G for 2 years since we have Cossa on the way. And i like Killorn but at 2 years max

We have Cossa but when? He will get some time in the AHL this year. Might not even be the starter. In this scenario I signed Daccord to split the starts there and be third option for the wings. Also with Jarry, Cossa will still need to be a back up so we will need a solid starter. Or if Cossa is a stud, Jarry can be the back up. Either way he will be gone before Cossa needs to really get paid. Killorn for two would be ideal by my thought process is overpay since the free agent market is thin

I predict Cossa fully taking over in 2.5-3 years. If Jarry was around 4-4.5M then I’d give him 4 years. But at 5.5+ I’d rather go with a cheaper bandaid.
I’m fine with overpaying for the weak market. I’d rather overpay AAV than term. Give Killorn 7M for 2 years. No one else would give him 7M but the wings have cap space

I don't disagree at all. My original parts with Jarry only signed him for 3. Trying to gauge how people feel with more term and money to see what's agreeable.

Give our cap space and timeline, overpay in AAV but on shorter terms. Give Killorn and Tarasenko 6-7.5M each and flip them with retention if we’re not in playoff contention.
