<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Christian17</b></div><div>Leafs fans are completely clueless as to their situation.
You have a forward that doesn’t want to leave Toronto with a NMC. He has an expiring deal at 11M. The team is already limited by the cap hit as to who they can trade with but on top of that Marner gets to choose where he goes.
Y’all aren’t getting 50 cents on the dollar if you trade him, you’re gonna get a trade like the Hall or Tarasenko deals.
So honestly the best thing Leafs can do is not trade him.
But if you do make a trade with a team like the Ducks.
Expect to just get that EDM 1st, if that, because the second Verbeek answers the phone he knows he has alllllll the leverage and zero pressure to make it happen, as is the case with every other team that receives a call from Treliving cuz there’s only a handful of teams that are gonna be eligible.</div></div>
1...not a Leaf fan
2.. IF Toronto asked Marner about a trade, Southern California would likely be an easy sell
3. IF Anaheim recieved that call, a late 1st and Gibson would be pretty hard to pass up on unless they believed they needed Gibson to compete during his contract AND that if that was the plan, that Gibson improved those odds of competing moreso than Marner...Salary currently is not an issue..
3.. I think TML fans expecting top prospects, lottery picks or young stud blueliners for Marner are delusional.

Then he will earn a raise..talk about clueless
If you want to pay now for potential later that's great...I'd rather pay more later because you earned it and were underpaid previously...
Right now, today, LR has not earned a 8 year or 8m a season contract.. if you think he has great leys look at his actual stats, not pace or prorated stats, but actual achieved stats

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazorSeider53</b></div><div>Raymond is the only one that's consistently shown up for the last month and is pacing almost 70 points just having turned 22... Yeah, he's absolutely worth $8M lol.
This isn't that hard to understand. With cap increases, $8M will be $6M by the time year 6 of that contract rolls around. If Raymond's development comes to a screeching halt and he tops out as a 60-70 point winger, he's still worth $6M.
If he continues the trajectory he's on and is an 80-90 point winger by year five, we're screwed into paying him way more when we could've been paying him $8M under a $112M cap.</div></div>
I do not believe he is a 8m player today...pace to me is irrelevant...put up 80pts next year followed by 90pts then ok sure..put thecteam on your back and lead them into the playoffs then ok sure...
He has s long way to go

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazorSeider53</b></div><div>Your claim is that he could fail to live up to the expectations of an 8 year deal and it could become an albatross, so they should sign him to a 5 year deal...
The whole point is by the time that five years is over, the cap is going to be so inflated that something like $8M isn't going to be ****. So why the hell would we put ourselves in a position where he pans out and we have to pay him, say $13M over those next three years.</div></div>
The point is that he could not pan out and regardless of what the cap is in 2029, paying him 8m for 8 years is still bad...
Pay him 5m for 5 years and if he exceeds expectation it's a win win
If he chooses not to exceed expectations then he simply will not be worth more money or possibly an extension and in the meantime saved cap space to be used elsewhere..
LR is not worth 8m a season yet

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazorSeider53</b></div><div>It's pretty simple. 5% raises over the next five years.
The question was asked because you apparently think $13M is going to be a lot more than it actually is. Know what's even less? $8M.</div></div>
Ok I guess I'm confused here...
What was your point exactly specific and exclusively about Raymond and signing him today for five years and then resigning him in five years to another contract?
My point is who cares...if he exceeds expectation good for him AND good for us.. if he chooses to not exceed expectations then good for us (we arent saddled with an albatross contract) and bad for him(loses out on money)

Or maybe you're right and we should sign him to a five year deal and then end up having to pay him $13M/year in five years...</div></div>
If and that's a big if, Raymond in 5 years can command 13m plus on a longterm deal it is solely because he has put up multiple 90 pt plus seasons, been nominated for league trophies AND more importantly lead the team deep into the playoffs..
If he can do all that by 2029...pay the man

The worst thing that happens is the player exceeds the contract and brings success to your franchise...I see that as a win-win
On the other end the player chooses to fail to deliever and you're stuck with an albatross contract...I see that as only a win for the player

Raymond ain't getting a max term deal and will sign a bridge deal
Seider ain't getting paid more than Larkin yet
Pesce likely gets more
Cgy likely says no but yes the Wings absolutely need a legit goalie for 2 years till Cossa is ready
