Description
Hear me out:

Most of these UFA's are buy-low options. Guys that are under the radar that might do more in bigger roles, or need bounce back years. But they're all pretty low-risk and there's not a ton of money invested in them. It's not completely unlikely that Brown, Granlund or Donato end up on the second line by the end of the season. There's lots of centre depth and you haven't depleted any picks or prospects. UFA contracts might not be perfect but they're ballpark anyway.

We also know Dubas LOVES Matt Murray, Pittsburgh loves Matt Murray and they want to get rid of Granlund. Leafs take on extra risk here with the two year deal, so not even sure they'd do this but it's fun to think about.

You're going to get more middle-6 offence from this group and lots of different types of players on the roster.

Heck yah. That Murray buyout is nothing against our cap compared to Granlund.

The Leafs could just trade Murray for Labanc or something instead of taking on mkre years. Those additional years will cost the Leafs a quality player.

I don't think Granlund is a bad player by any stretch. Toronto needs some centre depth and Pittsburgh needs options in goal. Each team trades a problem. I don't think it's a perfect scenario (Toronto might even ask Pittsburgh to add a draft pick) but it's a fun one to consider.

A guy like Adams Henrique who has a year left would be a better option because it allows them to have cap flexibility the following year. If Matthews and Nylander sign, things are going to be tight. If not, then that's a different story but I still think Treliving will want cap to revamp the Dcore.

I'd love a Schiefele or Lindholm type. But they're valuable. Henrique I think the Ducks will still want an asset for (especially if you want retention which I am sure Toronto would). There's definitely a few candidates on expiring deals I could see them targeting.
