dont keep willy

Created by: JAKE6
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2023
Published: Jun. 26, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
one of the core 5 has to go. even if willy is willing to take 8m on his next deal i think we should move on. we need a more balanced line up with more toughness. keefe system relies heavily on forecheck yet we have barely anyone who creates space by hitting. if were gonna commit to keefe i would give him a more physical squad. cuz the team foundations dont fit his system. erne or aston-reese. i think erne is the better player but he might be offered more money elsewhere. toronto is a great place to show case his grinding skills. alot of money is tied on the shorterm. wed have alot of time and $$$ to come up with changes if this team doesnt work out

Neither Robertson nor Timmins is worth a 2nd so why would the Caps pay that for both? I don’t think the Caps would be particularly interested in either.

with carlsson. tvr and jensen u are right they probably arent intersted in timmins. but hes still a .5 ppg dmen that produces and has a good two way game. that being said if they were each worth a second obv we wouldnt trade both for 1

Even with an extension the Jets should just keep their 1st and McGroarty and trade Lowry elsewhere but they won't trade ol Stonehands cause they're the worst run organization in the league.

No chance the Sabres move Boosh. They don't need the cap space and he was good when he wasn't playing hurt. He is a great 3rd pair D who can play up the lineup in case of injury. Finally, they aren't going to help the leafs get a cheap roster player for a 3rd round pick.

its not only cap space but also a roster spot. they can get a legit top 4 which they need via free agency. graves and dumba are a clear upgrade. this thing of not helping other teams has to stop. the whole point of trading is to help eachother lol. also 2.75m for a third pair dmen isnt cheap

The Sabres already do not have enough NHL caliber defensemen, why would they trade one to a division rival for a third round pick that is not likely to turn into a 3rd pairing defenseman? There is no guarantee that they are going to get either of the other guys that you mentioned either. They are really only looking for one guy so why open a roster spot?

I agree. Theres Leaf fans on here that just overvalue leaf players like crazy on here. But i understand because the media hypes them up more then any system in the NHL.
Robertson has been decent when he has played but with the injuries you cant go out and get a 1st or 2nd for him RIGHT NOW. if he comes back and next season scores 20 goals plus then ya for sure he would be worth a 2nd. but as of right now they would probably only get a 3rd for him.

Im very curious why the leafs are going and trading Nylander for draft picks when theyre trying for the cup. if they trade Nylander it would have to be for a different style player then him aroundf as good. making similar or less money

he managed to play in the top 6 with the leafs. hed do his job, his best spot is on the LW. he has a great shot and hell give much needed depth scoring to any team while being strong defensively

It's very much a trope for Leafs fans on this site to think they can recoup decent picks for their formerly hyped prospects who haven't lived up to expectations. I don't think any other fanbase does it as nearly as often.

Yeah, the hype died because he's been battling injuries, guys who miss a ton of key developmental time very rarely catch up. I dunno how many guys eventually pan out after playing a total of 82 games in their age 19, 20, and 21 seasons, but it can't be a long list.

I meant to say Lowry and a prospect and a draft pick. If the leafs were to do that deal theyre basically saying to Matthews this window is over were going to focus on 3-4 years down the road. Mcgroarty and the first arnt going to be near their prime for another 3-4 years . and longer. They need assets that can win now as not to waste another year of Matthews, Marner. Its why you saw Huberdaeu , Tkachuk trade both teams want to remain relevant now. not build for the future. If they did that trade they mid as well trade Matthews and Marner as well and get as many draft picks and Prospects as they can. its why you see teams going for a cup trading away their draft picks and prospects , not trading their best players for them.
