Same could be said about Chiarot, yet Yzerman inked him with big contract. Dumba is, despite his shortcomings, a fit for Detroit. They need a Top4 RHD and he's one of the better ones in the market

Rather just stink another year at RD than lock ourselves with Dumba.

Why? He's a good young goalie on a cheap contract with term

Cuz there's 10 goalies in the free agency better or as good as Vladar to be had for free. He's a 2G, nothing special.

Term is negotiable. I went with max term since that'd no doubt be the most interesting option for Dumba in the free agency, and it works to compensate on the money offered

How many of those goalies are under 34 years old? Vladar absolutely gas 1A/1V potential

Pass. Any term that'll interest him is too long; doubt he'll take 1/2.

Jarry, Korpisalo and Hill are first to come to mind, but if the goalie is acquired to become a 2G I just fail to see why age matters so much.

As for his potential, I don't see it. He's basically career Mrazek or Rittich, nothing amazing. Could see him net a 3rd if a certain opening appears, but in this post I just took him for a low pick for CGY to avoid losing him to waivers for free (assuming CGY plans to have Wolf in a NHL role).

Out of the 31 teams in the league tho I can't think of one that would consider Vladar a tandem 1G for their roster, save the complete rebuilders who are unlikely to move picks for anything.

Well this is because you view him so poorly. If you've watched him play for any substantial time you would see the potential is absolutely there.

Uh-huh. Perhaps it's a me issue, it's not like I have watched plenty of his games. But a 26-year old career sub .900% goalie that has played behind a really solid defense roster wise just doesn't scream of huge potential to me.

Thats the issue right there. Go look at the Carolina goalies sv%, they aren't great either. When a team has a really strong defensive system the quality of shots that do get through are higher than league average. The Calgary goalies faced some of the lowest shots per 60 league wide and it wasn't because they always had the puck in the offensive zone otherwise they would have been a playoff team

Raanta .910, Kochetkov .909, Andersen .903...I mean sure they could be better but they are still above of what Vladar has managed. And that doesn't apply to only this year, but last year too when both of the teams arguably performed better, especially Calgary.

I really don't think you are getting this and I don't really know what to tell you besides go watch some of random flames games highlight videos on YouTube. Sv% is not going to look great when you only face 20 shot a game, you let in a goal on the PK and your team looses every game in OT, thats a .900sv% right there and that's only 1 goal against in regulation.

No no I get what you mean. It's just, the concept of goalie's save percentage increasing BECAUSE he'd play behind a weaker defense sounds...weird to me.

It is counterintuitive but it's not entirely wrong, I think it's more like a parabolic curve personally. I look at Gibson who faced nearly 40 shots a night. He is still a fine goalie but had an .899sv%, his 5v5 sv% was .911 though. Vejmelka got lit up on a nightly basis too but if you've watched him play you know he looks very good

One of the reasons (of many) Shesterkin won the Vezina last year was because even though his team very often left him out to dry defensively he was still excellent, this can be seen by the sheer gap in sv% between him Georgiev that year. Georgiev is not a bad goalie, as we saw this year, when playing behind a team as dominant as the Avs.
