Easy no from Seattle for one year of Nylander. Next season the Kraken spend Nylander money on a UFA of their choice, and keep the 1st, 2nd and Goyette.

This seems very reasonable. If Willy is no where near resigning I would consider this trade highly at the draft. I really like Bjorkstrand.

You sign Nylander long term for $8M. Not many players of this caliber available. Trade Yanni Gourde to the Avalanche to recoup some picks

Me too. But his AAV is not that much lower. I rather like a cheaper forward option or a big D improvement if Willy is going to be traded. They are not close in contract talks. But maybe he will sit out until december 1st again. He won't take a haircut if 34 signs for 13+

More silliness, basing a trade on an extension.

You will not sign him for 8M longterm. He is asking for double digets. Likely it will be between 9-10M. Also Kyper and Bourne just talked about the fact due to his motivation that you rather sign him to a short term deal. Good idea in my opinion.

Why is this silly; part of the negotiations that Nylander signs a LT deal and he will to play with Matty

No different than the deal LA is trying with the JETS; it will only be approved if PLD sign LT deal

$9M is feasible not $10M

Thanks for confirming my thought. You really think LA is really interested in PLD long term. Kings have great young centres. Sorry, this has been a real fantasy on CapFriendly these trades based on extensions. Doesn't happen that often. And the fact is PLD, can negotiate contract this week with any team as a unsigned RFA. I wanna hear the conversation the Leafs have Nylander. "Hey we know you are under contract to play with the Leafs for one more season, but we want your ass outta town. So hurry up and sign a contract so we can trade you to Seattle. But you don't sign, you are welcome back in the Leaf family as we make another Cup run."

They don't. Especially for players who are under contract to their teams for one full season....and a contending team at that . Read my narrative above.

Yes LA will move either Byfiled or Turcotte in that trade and LA wants to sign PLD LT because he will eventually replace Kopitar who is 35 and will be 36 next year and will be a UFA next year

HABS inked contracts with Suzuki and Caufield 1 year befoire their present contract expires. All teams try to do this with their star players. Only TO seems to have issues with this

Yes, teams signed their own RFAs (or even UFAs) a year ahead of time. But they don't tell a player under contract for one year to hurry up and sign a contract so we can trade you.
Big difference especially since Suzuki and Caulfield were RFAs when their contract expires not upcoming UFAs

It`s not TO that negotiates but Seattle agrees in terms for the new contract and puts in place the T&Cs once the trade is completed. It`s an insurance for the team receiving the player that he will stay long term.

Thanks for reading my narrative as suggested....here it is. " I wanna hear the conversation the Leafs have Nylander. Seattle passes. stay with the more cap friendly contract of Bjorkstrand. Keep their picks in a really deep draft, and explore other options next year when contracts come off the books.

Or do what they did with Tkachuk and ask the player where they want to go and trade them there for the best you can get.

Different scenario isn't it.. Tkachuk contract with the Flames had expired. Tkachuk has an unsigned RFA, could negotiate with any team for a contract....though compensation would have gone back to the Flames. Sure is different that telling one of your top players who is under contract for a year to hurry up and sign a contract because we want to trade you.

you are not understanding what i am saying, if Nylander wants to much money and it wont work here you can tell him we will trade you where you want to resign and then work out the best deal with one of those teams. It can be done.

Why stop there. Matthews hasn't signed either, or Brodie or Lafferty upcoming UFAs in 2024. There are about 100 upcoming UFAs in summer of 2024. Do those 100 players get traded too?
Rarely done as I suggest. Don't know why the Cup contending Leafs would allow it, especially if no agreement can be made and then Nylander stays a Leaf. Or Seattle they keep their young assets and can sign any UFA they want in summer of 2024, or even this summer.
Sorry, it's more a CapFriendly fantasy...
