These are plausible
DeMelo is underrated in my opinion but, they do hate Wheeler so it`s possible
Why Comtois and not just play Foote, Holtz or Boqvist?

Comtois is just an example of a potentially inexpensive winger. Not sure where he’s fall into lineup.

I am guessing NSH and PHI would have said the same about Johansen and Hayes. But would probably depend on how much Caps need the cap space.

Sure, but why not get an asset back? Are they trying to compete this year? Do they need the extra $1.5m this year (at expense of $2.2n next year?)

Mantha this year would cost 1.3... freeing up 4.5m roughly? more cap today > tomorrow. esp with that cap going up every year.

2024-25
Buyout: $2.16m

Difference: $2.16m

So a buyout would save $1.49m in 2023-24 but cost $2.16m in 2024-25.

Johansen has 2 more years at 8M (and had his last season ended 3 months early with a leg injury), Hayes has 3 more years at 7.14M, Mantha has 1 more year at 5.7M. Mantha's also 2 years younger than those guys. I don't think his contract is nearly as much of a negative at Johansen's and Hayes's were.
