Hanifin is a sign and trade - signs 5 x 7.15m

Not sure about the Saad and Zherenko value. Doesn't have to be Carolina, but someone in need of a middle six scoring winger and a B prospect as a sweetener.

Uhhhh you guys are aware that someone was JUST prepared to give Sanhim for full cost Krug and a late 1st, right? So he already had some value at full cost. Krug at 4M would not have zero or negative value. Obviously. The hard part with Krug is finding a place he will go to that will take him.

And the Blues and Flyers are in entirely different situations. What the Flyers do is irrelevant to what the Blues would do.

Yes - a tanking team in the Flyers was willing to get out of Sanheim for 8 years by taking in 4 years of Krug and getting a first. Now there is no one else the Blues can find to take Krug or at least it looks that way. So the Blues would possibly do the above. Boston however would not…

Riiiight, so in other words, Krug was assigned some value in the trade. So in other words, if he was suddenly 1/3rd retained, he would definitely have more value than he had to the rebuilding team. This Boston trade is basically Krug with 8.5M retention for free-ish. That ain't on, man.

Would prefer to dump Scandella obviously, but Saad has more value and would be easier to move. The reason they need to dump someone at all in this hypothetical is cuz Hanifin would start his 7.15aav the following year (not to mention Blais and Vrana are up as well).

Either way, Saad is overpriced for what he provides the Blues. Certainly an expendable players considering the other changes made.

Why not? Because of Krug's cap hit? Or is Frederic worth more?

Nooo- the Flyers were willing to take Krug to get a first and get out of Sanheim signed by previous GM to an 8 year contract that they don’t want. Hence Krug has negative value…not that difficult to see…

I feel like with some retention he could get into positive value, but without, depending on the team / gm he has negative or neutral value.

No you're right on that, if he were to be moved, I suppose it would probably be best served at the TDL where Blues could get more of a return for him.

The Blues are not able to give Krug away. Boston is already in cap hell. Don’t see them getting Krug. He’d definitely go there so sure Doug has explored to no avail…

Dang that's too bad. I think we all know that one of, if not both, Krug and Leddy need to go to get this team seriously competitive again. Really need new partners for Faulk and Parayko.

Why do people keep sending Krug to Boston? They can't afford him, even retained.

Heh. So you think Sanheim has zero value? Because we both know that is not true. But either way, you slice it, now we're talking about Krug at around 4M. At around 4M Krug definitely has positive value, man.

No, but if the 1st was solely to pay for taking Krug, then not only did they offer Sanheim for free, they offered him for free ON TOP of giving half retained Hayes for free. So somewhere in that exchange, Krug carried some amount of value. And every local insider said the Flyers were getting Krug to keep him, not to move him or whatever. And if Krug had some value in that thing, if you suddenly chop away 8.5M off his remaining deal, he'd have more value. Like a decent amount more.

Now, if you ask me, that's nuts and I'd give him away for nothing or even retain a little. But not everything is tuned to my value-o-meter. The NHL only listens to me occasionally. Which is why we sometimes get, well, almost every trade Army makes, with a fleecing one way or another. tears of joy

The Flyers do not want to be committed to Sanheim for 8 years and have a hard deadline of July 1. The Flyers would do this deal if the Blues did Scandella and let’s say Kapanen for $ purposes for year 1, but the Blues don’t want to still be committed to Krug. The Flyers want the pick and to be out of Sanheim. The Blues want Sanheim (probably not for 8 years though) and want to be out of Krug as they have his replacement in Hobey Baker Scotty P. I don’t think Krug sucks but don’t think Blues will get any value for him alone even if retain. We’ll see. I think he’s played his last game as a Blue regardless.
