None of those have real legs to get done.

8 new players? Thats what leafs are missing? If they are missing that many, then start the rebuild

Pretty much every team other than Toronto says no to these deals . Most players don’t sign these lowball contracts either.

I expect Karlsson is going to cost a lot more than you think. Especially with retention.

Just dropped 100pts and Norris winner. Won't come cheap even with his contract and NMC. SJ is not obliged to move him. If I'm Grier, I'm going to hold firm for fair value or he plays in SJ next year.

Lilly and a late 1st is a light offer.

14.25m for Sanheim and Karlsson long term.....no thanks. Absolutely no cap flexibility next season to sign Nylander and Matthews

They had 6 players for game 1 of the playoffs that they didn't have in the organization at that start of last season.

Also traded for 7 at the deadline

The team is built to have high turnover around the core.

Between them the raises will be less than the cap increase. About 2M each, cap should go up 4-5M

Why not?

The athletic did a good piece on the Flyers essentially talking about how you NEED to trade him.

Assuming you take this draft and next draft to get prospects so in a year you have some 18y olds.

Let's say that come can make the playoffs by 22 and seriously compete by 24. (Essentially every rebuilt where you don't get a Matthews, McDavid, Kane, Crosby).

So now by the time that you can compete Cates is 31.

Options are trade him, pay him to stay through a rebuild then likely overpay him when your team is trying to win (assuming he stays)

Or most likely he walks in 2 years cause he is a UFA

Philly fans act like he is 19 cause he's a rookie, he's 24. Same age as Hart and everyone else you are moving out.

That would make sense if they possessed so few prospects, so few picks, so little cap space. Or if the recipe they've been using WORKED.

The cap heavy 4 forward hydra with a bunch of misfit add-ons/duct tape fixes has not worked, so why bend reality in UFA offerings or trades that have little benefit to the other teams?

These unrealistic proposals are simply to maintain the status quo that has delivered just 1 win in the 2nd round over many years

The rebuild will not take seven years. Its a three year minimum. Cates was an excellent rookie and could be a cornerstone for the Flyers forward core for years to come.

We aren't moving out all our 24 year olds. Most players being moved are 26+. By the time we start competing again Cates will be around 27-28. Aka prime years. Rebuilds for most teams don't take almost a decade.

If you really care about this convo three years from now I will be amazed. If we finish bottom 5 in three years then we finish bottom 5. There's a reason I said "minimum". I'll continue watching no matter where they finish cause I like hockey.
