Hawks probably decline on Murray. Davidson has said he's not interested in adding a goalie this year.

Change the pick to Boston's 1st and they'd probably take it though.

Eating a cap dump to get compensation doesn't really have anything to do with position. If TOR handed over real compensation (not a swap of a 3rd and 5th) CHI would probably eat Murray's cap hit. It's not like the purpose of the trade would be to get a goaltender.

Yeah, I don't disagree with you, but I think Davidson said that to ensure that unlike last year, when the Hawks had no NHL goalie on their roster and probably needed to swap the picks in the Mrazek deal, this year they would have better leverage, since he has two goalies set for next year. So if the deal is Murray and the 3rd next year, with nothing going back, the Hawks should accept.

Sorry, but I gotta disagree. A 3rd to take a player the Hawks don't need who has a $4.5m cap hit and a $6m actual salary is not sufficient compensation. Hawks should not do that. Hawks are at the cap floor. They have enough veteran NHL players. The play for Davidson is to now hold out for high picks only in deals for bad contracts.
