Canes after moving Skjei

Created by: GoCanes
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2023
Published: Jun. 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- I don't think the Canes should extend Skjei for 7-8 years
- He's a valuable asset and it's time to sell high
- The Fla fit is perfect… Fla gets a great LD and Canes retain salary. The Canes get offense with Duclair and draft compensation
- Yes, NYR would match this Miller contract. Car threatens to go ~$7-8mil for a year which the NYR won’t match. A trade is agreed to for more than the RFA offer sheet return and the Canes get a lower AAV with term until he can be a UFA. They also have a LD for 4 years vs 1 with Skjei.
- Adding Miller negates the need for the TDA trade as he will run PP2
- The LA trade is fair value even though they have a cap crunch.
- Canes get much bigger and add more scoring
- This team is a cup favorite

Lol rangers would definitely match up to $7/8m. He’s their top 1LD and worth the investment

He would… NYR don’t want to offer him that much AAV over 4. They don’t have the space without altering their roster. He’s a RFA, they’d like to get him at ~$4x2

Assuming the Kings decide to move Arvidsson, this is a fair return.

I'm not convinced they've decided to move Arvidsson yet.

And play with 15 players? They don’t have the ability to pay him -$8/yr with Fox and Trouba on big contracts. Not feasible… they want to go lower AAV and years with KAM until cap space frees up minus Panarin and Trouba in 3 years. RFA’s re-sign with their team for less money & below market deals without the threat of an OS.

think if they have to trade him for that price or offer 6 million, they will offer 6 million and move someone else.

Agreed… but they won’t match the $8mil offer sheet and this trade return is better than what they’d receive declining the OS at $8 mil (just a 1/2/3 round pick). What KAM and Car work out contract wise after that is irrelevant and better for both sides. The point of the trade is to avoid the OS.

NYR would like him at ~$4-4.5x2. KAM would prefer $6x4 that gets him to UFA or $8x1 from the Canes. Hence the motivation for the trade.

If they're willing to run with fewer than 23, they don't need to move anyone.

If they want to run with 23 and don't mind having a 4th line full of six-figure guys, they can move Lizotte and Grundstrom and still fit.

Yes. At least to start the season. They can do what they did last season and acquire another goaltender at the draft if it's not working.

Copley was the only reason they even made the playoffs last season. No reason not to give him a chance.

They buy-out Goodrow and have $15m in cap. A contract that big and they probably move on from Laffy

Rangers don't even consider that offer for Miller, keep dreaming Cane fans. Now, let's have the childish offer sheet threat response.

Why is it childish? It’s a mechanism in the CBA.

I like this team. Doubt it’s realistic with the KAM stuff but would be sweet. I’d rather get a higher end winger than duclair though. Maybe trade Skjei and use assets in a separate trade.

On this forum it is simply childish when a fan says no to someone's trade proposal. They want to take their ball and go home. Childish.

There are plenty of adult education classes you could take or just enroll back in grade school and get the brain tuned up some. Good luck with that bud.
