Package is good. Not a huge fan of the retention though, but that's me wanting to be more conservative with our retention slots after Hayes.

Oilers say no. Paying essentially 3 1st round picks for Konecny plus a 3rd plus a roster guy is not okay. Massive overpayment for Konecny

It's not really an over pay because Broberg has lost his value as a 1st up to this point, like a new car driving off the lot. The book is still out on Borgeault, but there's nothing been too exciting for him yet. Any team would've traded Bourgeault for a 1st in any other draft if they were offered. And you also have to take into consideration that an EDM 1st is always gonna be in the mid to late 20's with how they are set up right now, all taking down the value a little from say, a San Jose or Chicago 1st round pick.

Factor in a 50% retention for 2 years for a top 6 point per game player entering his prime, and yes, this is right on the money with his value. If the Flyers would accept is the only question

Broberg is extremely young, Bourgault has only played 1 year in the minors. I think people are being too hasty on trading our farm before anyone has even gotten a chance to develop. These guys still have at least 2 years of development before we can judge them, and trading them now while their value is so low is definitely not the way to go imo.

Your window to win a SC however, is right now, and adding a cheap 2.75mm AAV to the cap who was a point per game player last year, basically who just entered his prime, may be too good to pass up. It allows you to make your top 6 stronger, slot guys better throughout the lineup, and allows you the flexibility to do more. I bet we'd even take a cap dump for another high pick so you guys can sign Bouchard.

Never know.

I 100% agree in your thought process, but I think the thinking is too short term. What happens if we don’t win the cup in the next 2 years? Then all of these guys that we traded our farm for become unaffordable, and we won’t have any young/cheap talent to replace them. Konecny isn’t someone you give up everything for, not even close. Players of that caliber (60 point guys) have gone for way less, look at toffoli

I wouldn't call your window only 2 years old though. In two years the cap goes up, you would be able to afford a TK extension, you still have prospects from recent drafts still coming up and you still have some picks to bolster the roster or use. I'm of the thinking you go all in if you have two of the best players in the world, if not the two best. Gotta go for it.

Maybe that's not a player like TK, maybe it's a goalie that you need desperately, but I feel like just doing the same thing over and over just feels like a car stuck in the mud.
