Why would Wahlstrom take less than bellows when he’s produced a lot better than him

Bellows had a $750k min contract inbetween his ELC and $1.2m deal. Not to mention Wahlly coming off the ACL. His QO is $874k. Agent can call it a small win if a team gave him $1x1 to prove himself

Wahlstroms comparables all got in the 1.5-2.5 mill range over the last 2 years coming out of their ELCs.

ACL will play a factor but not enough to bring him down to 1 mill IMO.

1.3-1.5 x 1 or closer to 2 mill on a 2 year deal

A buyout would give Ottawa 1.33 million in additional cap space.

They would get an opportunity to buy him out if they go to arbitration (i.e. Ilya Samsonov).

1.33 million from Murray buyout + 407K in left over space = 1.74 million.


5 million from taking Pageau - 3.5 million from not signing Tatar = 1.5 million


1.74 million - 1.5 million = 240K under the cap

If we get Pageau, who moves to wing ? Pageau or Pinto
