What is he doing

Created by: Pete
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2023
Published: Jul. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't get Yzerman changes this offseason. Holl 3x$3.4M, Kostin 2x$2M + approx. $1M for Yamamoto buyout, Fischer? Less against Sprong + Gostisbehere but still think these players fit better in Chicago or Arizona than Detroit.

For me absolute disappointment so far.

Could any insider explain this to me, please?

Just filling the roster…wings still got a year or two before they are ready to compete. I think he is playing the slow game.

Holl - we need NHL dmen and that's a cheap one that can log 20 minutes a night on the right side (pretty simple)
Kostin - a big first round pick scoring winger that we acquired and signed for next to nothing (also pretty simple)
Yama buyout - cost of acquiring Kostin (shouldn't have to explain that one)
Fischer - another low-cost player to fill out the roster.
Sprong and Ghost - really solid NHL players on nominal one-year deals. Fantastic signings

What's the problem?

An acknowledgement that the Wings are 2 years away from needing to rely on their kids to play and play well in the NHL.

Throwing a bunch of 19 and 20 year Olds to the wolves does not help your team long term.
