Add Winnipeg unprotected first to dump Appleton. You réalisée how silly you sound?

You're the one sounding silly. Appleton is a useful player, Hoffman is garbage.

No one is taking one of Montreal's numerous cap dumps for free.

Hoffman is a goal scorer. He is a third line player who is heavily overpaid. In this deal tho, he isn’t because 75% of his cap hit is retained. Thinking that a first is needed to move him is just silly. Appleton is a useful fourth liner who is paid a little too much. It’s less crazy to think he needs a first to be moved than to think Hoffman at 1 million need a first or even negative value

The difference is, Montreal is coming to Winnipeg here to dump a player on them that is completely worthless. Hoffman isn't a goal scorer, he's a waste of a contract slot. No one wanted him before Montreal signed him to that awful contract, no one wanted him at the TDL an no one wants him now.

It's silly to think that anyone wants him or wants to five up good assets for deadweight. Hoffman is the definition of cap dump at any contract value.

I understand wanting to get rid of him as badly as Montreal fans want to. But the same reasons you want to dump him are thesame reasons no one wants him. Just but him out if you don't want to pay the cost to dump him.

He still got 14 goals on a bad team. He isn’t a waste of a spot. He is an offensive third liner. At 1 million it’s pretty valuable. If you want to talk of a waste of a spot, talk about Logan Stanley. And I’m pretty sure a lot of teams were on Hoffman’s case before he signed with Montreal.

No, no one wanted Hoffman. All the insiders at the time thought he was going to Europe. Then Montreal threw a bad contract at him.

Montreal fans also thought Edmundson was getting a 1st and top prospect minimum and how did that work out? You're perfectly welcome to keep Hoffman and his 14 goals playing way more minutes in Montreal than he would anywhere else.

We're not going to agree so we can just let it be.

Eddy would have got a first if he was healthy. Unfortunately he wasn’t. I don’t even know why I’m arguing with you. You are the one that think Hellebuyck will get Mercer + Nemec and Pld had a bad return…

Lmao as if you weren't calling him a cap dump for months on here. Don't project your homer-ness and poor valuations on others.

I like the Jets and I am quite sorry whenever a Canadian team gets stigmatized the way WPG seems to be these days. But the truth is, if they really want to remain competitive, they will have to attempt a couple of moves the fanbase won't fancy all that much... Hoffman is *NOT* worth 4.5M in any parallel universe, we agree. But frankly, he is worth more than 1.1M on a team that is looking for an offensive spark. Hey, Lucic got 1M for crying out loud.

The *only* reason why we are looking to get rid of him this early in the season is that we want to make space for the younger guys; we are in a rebuild; WPG is not. Keeping him would be suboptimal as we might have to use offseason LTIR (which Hughes understandably would like to avoid), but frankly it would not be a huge problem either. And at the deadline, he might very well fetch a late 3rd rounder.

My hunch is that if the market is really such that we'd have to pay to get him off the book, Hughes will then just embrace the LTIR inconvenience and weaponize it to get futures. It's just suboptimal because bonuses would likely get carried over to next year, but that's not the end of the world at this stage of our rebuild.
