LA might do that 1:1, but I hope MTL don't!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Oh look a bad PLd trade from a Habs fan. Haven’t seen one of these in three days.</div></div>
I agree with you that there are way too many PLD trades flying around... for a player that doesn't even make consensus here ;) Adding Byfield to the trade is plain laughable.
Just for the sake of discussion, take Byfield out of this trade. That is:
Dvorak, Barron, MTL 2025 1st for PLD, LA 2025 3rd.
Then, frankly, as a habs fan, I am not 100% sure this would be good for us. Don't get me wrong, unless LA is in a bind with the cap, I don't think they'd do that. But PLD doesn't exactly shine in the playoffs, which is supposedly where the redemption was supposed to come. He might very well bounce back next year, by 8.5M for another 7 years with NMC is a very, very risky contract for a player who never really showed consistency, and asked to be traded twice already at 25...
I'm not saying I'd say no, but it's far from being the slam dunk that non-MTL fans seem to think it is.

Check Farabee’s even strength numbers. Only like 6 points on the power play. Played only like 30 seconds on the 2nd unit. He has close to the same numbers as Suzuki. He could explode with us in an offensive system vs Torts defensive heavy system.</div></div>
I really like this trade; better thought than most around here ;) The Newhook comparable is a good one. I am just not sure why the Flyers would move one from a 24 yo with this kind of upside; the case was much clearer for the Avs.

The value is not bad. But we have several players of the "small and talented" variety. Not sure this is what we need to add.

And even then... It's a small fraction of fans that didn't bother following the saga. He leveraged the interest of Montreal and got the deal he wanted in LA. They committed to it. No hard feelings, it's business. But the ship has sailed, let's move on... and boo him when he hits the Bell Center's ice ;)

Oh! That's the way it works. Gee, let's fire all pro scouts and look only at last season's point total to evaluate players...
By that metric, you'd gladly accept a Caufield 1:1 trade for Ryan O'Reilly? Or Travis Konecny? I would not.

Come on. Drouin over Huberdeau? I mean, Drouin just cannot play under pressure. I am glad he turned things around and wish him the best of luck going forward, but no GM and it's right mind would equate him and Huberdeau. The latter had a bad start... on a team that wasn't built the right way. And yes, he is overpaid. Huberdeau is just better, there is no denying it.
That said, I am not sure I would trade for him given where we are with the rebuild.

Anyways, the move to Utah is a game changer. You don't pay 1.3B for a team and then load it with dead contracts. Utah will be a force to recon with at the draft and on July 1 with their draft capital and cap room.

I think we hold on to Carey's contract for the year: (1) we don't need the money now, (2) the value will be dramatically better on July 2nd 2025, when Carey virtually isn't owed anything anymore.

I don't care much for Boqvist. That said, given that the Habs compete window is not even open, if Cayden Lindstrom is still on the board, I'd draft him before making a 1:1 trade for KJ. Maybe CBJ's window is closer than ours.

I don't even understand why we are discussing cap dumps and Montreal in the same sentence. We'll have *too much** cap room this year. Let's do ourselves a favour and dump our contracts in our own backyard.

If a team or two behind us won the lottery, this could be tempting. Otherwise, this could be a draft floor decision depending on who is still on the board, but it would have to be considered IMO.

Hockey trade

I understand where you are coming from. But Montreal desperately needs goals, and as much as I'd like to trade Harris for a goal scorer, that won't be happening. Now, maybe Hutson will sign this summer and start filling the net next season, but I think he will need some time in the AHL. Meanwhile, Lekkerimaki is potentially closer to the NHL, especially given how thin Montreal is up front, whereas the Canucks are thinner in D...
In a perfect world, we win the lottery, draft Celebrini, Hutson rises to stardom in no time, and the above trade is moot.

If we needed Anderson's cap space, that might make some sense. But given that we don't, that Anderson's value can only go up (there's really no more room below), and that we value the Xhekaj's more than anyone else in the league, this trade would be plain horrible

Draft
Statistics on the past couple of decades of draft picks reveal a stark difference between Top 10 and Bottom 10 first round picks. If I were a Kraken fan, I wouldn't really see the point of that trade, unless they have an urgent need for a bottom pair RHD with some (I said some) upside potential

As of now, Arizona is carrying 23.14M worth of such contracts, actually paying out only 15.25M. Three of those contracts vanish this summer. Without those, they could be below the minimum cap hit next year. I am getting my info from an obscure website called capfriendly. You should try it...

From July 2nd, Arizona would have to pay 2M for a 10.5M cap hit; something they're bound to love. But that indeed comes with the 7.5M price tag in 25-26...
One thing is certain, if he's not traded this year, not too long after July 2nd 2025, Price will "finish his career" with another team.
