Extremely complex but might be what is required and why it’s taking so long.

I don't think Vancouver can pay that much for more dead cap space on top of the OEL buyout. If we retain at all it would have to be less than that.

As long as they have a third line winger that makes $2m less than Conor Garland’s ~$5m salary they would break even…. Until year 4. Then things get spicy.

According to Seravalli, Myers for Labanc straight up was the xe on the table. Not sure what the status on that is right now

I don't see a need to put themselves in that position. Pesce would be a great addition but we can wait for a better opportunity that fits better.

Taking back Labanc is also one of the worst things VAN could do given their abundance of wingers. Even after moving out Garland we have too many. And then retaining 2M for 4 years and still giving up a 1st+ does not seem appealing even while dumping Myers and Garland.

If this is what it would take I would probably pass. I think if it was simpler with SJS doing all the retaining on Karlsson and no Labanc in the deal it would be more appealing.

If a Myers for labanc swap is on the table that tells me labanc has very little value if any at all and the fact that Van is then giving up garland rathbone a 1st and taking on another 2m in dead space for pesce doesn’t seem like a good move for them. They’d be much better off trying to just do a swap with Carolina using a garland+ for pesce and not getting involved with Karlsson at all
