Todays intra squad game

Description
I watched the Montreal Canadiens intra-squad game today. My observations:

1- Lane Hutson: if he can handle the physical play, he will 100% play in the NHL. Best player on the ice.

2- David Reinbacher: needs to improve his first step and acceleration but his instincts are very high. He sees ice well and has a good stick.

3- Filip Mesar: very creative, excellent vision. Good with puck. Needs at least 1 maybe 2 years in Laval to get stronger.

4- Luke Tuch: big strong presence. Scored nice goal. Hard along the wall.

5- Owen Beck: as advertised, sees and reads the ice very well. Will be a good penalty killer and 3rd line centre. No room for him in Montreal and can’t play AHL. Probably another year of junior.

6- John Parker-Jones: noticeable, big body. Surprisingly good hands, showed offensive skill which surprised me for such a big guy. Although listed as D-man, played LW and looked good.

7- Logan Mailloux: good, precise shot. Scored a goal. Good size. Needs to work on quick turns. A year in Laval won’t hurt but definitely a future NHL player.

8- Adam Engstrom: smart player, sees ice well, smooth hands. Going back to Europe but definitely a player to keep on your radar.

9- Jakub Dobes: looks good in net. Big size. Will play in Laval this year but if Habs lose Primeau to waivers, it will thrust him from NCAA to #1 in Laval.

10- Joshua Roy: protects puck well, smooth hands. Needs to get stronger in body and skating. Will play in Laval for a 1 or 2 years. His offence is there, needs to round out his game.

The other players didn’t play bad but didn’t stick out.

Fowler has charisma like crazy. I noticed him more laughing and talking on the bench. He’s definitely not an introvert lol

Who is will vote?

He is a prospect from the 2023 draft that was a 4th liner in Leonard and Smith's team. He went undrafted but he got like a funny name and I swear to god that I heard his name by the commentators

Wow, there is actually a hockey player named will vote. With so many players on the ice. 37 players plus goalies, it was impossible to notice everyone and properly evaluate all of them. Plus I found the scrimmage too short but the players had been on the ice for 3 hours already.

There might be more scrimmage days. I'm not sure. I think it would be nice

I understand that the CHL protects their 19 yo players from going in the AHL to keep the level of play higher. But for some players, like Beck who plays exactly the AHL style, it seems to impeed their progression towards pro level. Beck has nothing else to prove at junior level.
Also really like your take on Engstrom. Too many people sleeping on him. Already playing against men, as smart as they come. Really liked him in the last juniors for Sweden.

I agree with you on Beck. But CHL players were losing revenue from ticket sales so it was agreed to keep 19 year olds in junior. If players make NHL, then money is sent to CHL Teams to offset financial losses.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense for guys like Roy, Mailloux or Kidney since they play a spectacular offensive style. Drives the ticket sales.
Guess this is the best compromise they could do. Hope it doesn't discourage Beck much.
