I think your assesment of the situation is spot-on. With the emergence of Struble, I thought Harris was also maybe on his way out.
I doubt any team will trade a 1st for Barron, so I would much prefer a 1v1 trade for a similar developped forward rather than a 2nd + something.

Habs win Lottery
I understand this is fantasy GM, but how many 1OA picks have been traded in the last 50 years ?
There is a reason why those kind of trades don't happen : risk management. A GM could lose his job and reputation if his move doesn't pan out with this level of assets involved.
Also, I see a lot of things in Celebrini that scouts saw in MacKinnon back in the juniors. One doesn't simply trade away that kind of potential, whatever the return.

Others would be bad contract swap I believe like Evans+ Allen for Johansen type of deal</div></div>
You might be right about Pearson, maybe I'm a bit harsh. He just seemed... invisible since his return from injury.
Also, MTL don't have cap problems for the forseeable future, so swapping bad contracts are more of a side-step rather than a forward one IMO, unless you evaluate a guy like Johansen to be much better next year.

I think the only player who has any trade value is Savard.
I'd say a 2nd and a mid-tier prospect for Savard retained.
Hats off to Hughes if he can get a decent return on anything else.

Frank Seravalli Proposed Trade
Not a bad package IMO.
Though I'd say the Avs should look for a center rather than a winger for this playoffs run.
Also, at that price, he needs to have an extension locked before trade. Then, do the Avs have enough cap the following years if Landeskog returns ?

Holtz Deal And More
I don't understand your goal.
You trade for a 39 yo UFA goalie like you pushing for a playoffs spot, then trade a top 6 forward for a 1st round pick like you tanking.
What are you trying to achieve ?

That Zegras trade has the potential to have you (as GM) fired without question if Zegras doesn't perform and/or MTL doesn't make the playoffs. No GM would take that risk unless his job already depends on the return value of the trade.

Team Finland 2025
This post made me take a better look at Maccelli.
Didn't know he was Finnish. Don't know why, I assumed he was Canadian.
Great pickup in the 4th round by the Coyotes.
It seems it's been ages since their last great player from a latter round.

Talk about a low-ball offer to Xhekaj.
For a standard NHL contract, the minimum salary is 800k. In 5 years, it might be at 900k or higher.
This attempt at profiting a player's prime at a low cost is straight up bullying.
If I was Xhekaj and I received this offer, I would refuse any other negociations with the Habs.

Monahan might not be rental only.
If I was NYR, I'd rather have Monahan next year instead of Wheeler who has been underwhelming IMO.

However we are 6 points out of a wild card spot (games in hand though), and it just really all depends on if Guentzel is wanting to stay or not. If he doesnt I think you have to look to move him at the deadline. It would mess up the room, but you cant let him go for nothing.</div></div>
I'm with you on that.
The ideal situation would be that he signs for something like 3 years in PIT, but it would not be in his financial interest.
Really hope he's part of the solution for that last push. He's such an offensive dynamo.

The first question I should have asked is : do you think Guentzel should be part of one last big playoff push with Crosby ?
If not, then you are right in thinking his value will be at max in a trade + extansion move. Reminds me of the Bo Horvat move.

Of all those trades, I think Vancouver makes most sense, though it depends greatly what they want to do with their defense core.
Also, how would you be comfortable with Guentzel signing something like 7x9M ?

Sadly, I don't see how Edmonton can deal away Campbell's contract.
From the latest comparable trade-to-buy-out, it would cost a late 1st for each of his remaining years.

I don't know about Eberle, but the McCann trade is as unrealistic as they come.
He's on a team friendly deal and has scored way more goals than any other Seattle player since their debut. Seattle are also reportedly looking to add goal scoring talent up front.
The quality of assets you would need to give Seattle would make the trade a side move at best.

My Habs ranking for this season
Kinda agree on this.
Not surprised by Harris, Xhekaj and RHP hitting the sophomore wall.
I also think Anderson only needs one to go in at this point. Once that massive monkey off his back, he could very well continue scoring at a respectable 20 goal pace.
Happy to see you're not sleeping on Ghule. This guy will be an anchor at the blue line for a long time.

I don't think anybody is interested in Anderson right now.
And MTL is certainly not interested in retaining on him for 4 years.
Honestly, I'd rather have him at 5.5M than play against him for 2.75M

Yeah, replacing an 18-minutes centerman is always a problem.
I don't care how long he will be out. I just wish he has the kind of injury with a finite recovery and a fixed return date.
I hate those "week to week" or "indefinite" injuries where you have no idea if the player is gonna return 100% ever. That would be a huge blow to the reconstruction project.

Change of Scenery
I don't think MTL is a good trade partner for Nylander.
1. They are still rebuilding, so trading picks and futures is questionable.
2. Especially to get a forward already halfway in his prime. By the time MTL's D-core is ready to compete, Nylander is past his best.
3. Nylander won't sign for less than Suzuki, which Hughes is trying to put as an upper limit for now.
Your trade partners are bubble teams ready to take the next step and go over the hump. MTL isn't there yet.

Philly Trade
I don't think this trade achieves anything for the habs. When the expected D core becomes mature enough to challenge in the playoffs, TK will be past his prime, and probably overpaid with new long-term contract.
It's not at forward we need to get more mature, it's at D. And we will, just need to be patient.
