Description
To be quite honest, I think we should look into signing Jake to a contract before we trade him, or let him agree to a contract with the team hes being traded to. That would up his value. A sign a trade basically. Below are teams that I think could be interested in Jake if he were to be put on the market. I went ahead and made some mock offers to show what'd i'd personally want, but please leave a comment explaining if the fit doesn't make sense and provide what could be on the table if he were to be a fit. Reported asking price is a 1st, youngish NHL ready player, and a prospect. Some of these might be lopsided in value so other pieces can be added to make it more even. These are just the base of the trade. Retention can also be on the table.

Below I'm gonna mark off what teams dont fit for Guentzel (just for myself so I know for future Guentzel trade ideas):
COL - X
BOS - X
DET - X
TBL - X
WPG - X

I think the Avs would like Guentzel, however they have no room on their wings for him and no cap room to re-sign him unless landeskog retired. So he’s not really a fit

Any team would like Guentzel but, as you mention, the Avs can't afford him so it's a no-go.

No thanks. Rather hold on to our assets.

Not a center and not going to pay his next contract.

Of all those trades, I think Vancouver makes most sense, though it depends greatly what they want to do with their defense core.

Also, how would you be comfortable with Guentzel signing something like 7x9M ?

I wouldnt mind it, but I'd hope for less than 9 mil. If he doesnt want to stay in Pittsburgh though, the price could increase because of that. That's why I'm kind of hoping we do a sign and trade because it would probably up his value a little.

The first question I should have asked is : do you think Guentzel should be part of one last big playoff push with Crosby ?
If not, then you are right in thinking his value will be at max in a trade + extansion move. Reminds me of the Bo Horvat move.

VAN does make sense as a Guentzel suitor if PIT will take back Kuzmenko to make the cap work. Have to think Allvin and Rutherford would love to add Jake to Petey's wing.

Yes he should 100% be part of a playoff push. However we are 6 points out of a wild card spot (games in hand though), and it just really all depends on if Guentzel is wanting to stay or not. If he doesnt I think you have to look to move him at the deadline. It would mess up the room, but you cant let him go for nothing.

                          I'm with you on that.
The ideal situation would be that he signs for something like 3 years in PIT, but it would not be in his financial interest.
Really hope he's part of the solution for that last push. He's such an offensive dynamo.

If we go on a good run before the deadline I think we start buying and making a push. Just do it without trading 1sts please lol

                          Red Wings can't afford Guentzel.

Yzerman has to give contract extensions to Seider and Raymond this summer.

Yeah the Avs aren't a good potential match here. Any team would love Guentzel but the Avs are stacked on the wings and need help at C & G. This doesn't fix any issues for them whilst taking away a valuable depth piece in LOC, the only candidate they have for a future 2C and any chance they have to add another potential 2C at the draft, so it works out as a terrible trade for the Avs, and that's before affording him (which they can't).

                          Thanks for the input.

Winnipeg says no. They need a 2C, not another expensive winger. If they spend big assets it needs to be for a player that fills the 2C or top 4 RHD hole.

COL isn’t trading for a winger and definitely not giving up Ritchie for a rental. COL needs a competent back up goalie, a middle 6 C, a 4C in that order.

Any extension Guentzel signed with TB would essentially end Stamkos time here no thanks.

Of all those trades, I think Vancouver makes most sense, though it depends greatly what they want to do with their defense core.

Also, how would you be comfortable with Guentzel signing something like 7x9M ?

I think 7X9 keeps him in Pittsburgh, unless he really wants out... I have a feeling someone will offer him 7x10+
