Philly Trade

Created by: hoac434
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 5, 2023
Published: Oct. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
MTL is currently a couple years into their rebuild. They are abundant with C-B+ prospects but no real difference maker.
PHI is only just starting their rebuild and as a result are lacking a bit in prospects.

This trade uses MTL's prospect pool to go and get a better player which fits MTL's window better than PHI's. Cost wise looking at what we've seen in the past this should be enough but Barron could be put instead of a 2nd

Allen is still a servicable backup/1B and could help alleviate pressure off of Hart while being a solid veteran presence in the locker room
Ylonen is a depth forward, only really there to make space in MTL
Mailloux is arguably a B+ prospect, ex-1st round pick who fills a gap in PHI's defence prospect pool
Trades
PHI
  1. Allen, Jake
  2. Mailloux, Logan
  3. Ylönen, Jesse
  4. 2025 1st round pick (MTL)
  5. 2026 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
2025 1st: Top 10 protected, whichever of CGY and MTL's lowest pick outside the top 10

Value wise it’s a great offer for TK but we already had enough locker room cancers the last few years so I’m not trading the Habs a McChicken for Mallioux no matter how good he is and probably will become

I can't see Konecky being the difference maker for his two years as Hab to justify the trade.
I've been impressed by Mailloux this pre season.

The trade might be premature by a year since the habs realistically need one more high draft pick before they can start buying in to the playoffs but a Konecny trade wouldn't be just for 1-2 years of him, it would be to keep. He was a PPG player last year on that Flyers team and he is still relatively young which could fit well in our top 6 which is currently missing at least one or two pieces

He's not a "locker room" cancer. Just don't sleep with him and you'll be fine.

Habs wouldn't be interested in TK. They dont want another undersized winger

Here's the thing, teams may want to extend a player....but really shouldn't base a trade on that. Players can be UFAs so they can sign for whatever team for whatever reasons. Not that saying Konecky isn't a good fit (for any team). but to me it's a lot for a non playoff team to give up. Look for the Devils gave up for one year of near point a game man Toffelli. A third rounder.

This make zero sense for MTL …
Undersized winger, trading one of their 3 RHD prospects (you even said Barron could be add instead of the 2nd 💀)
Trading a top 10 pick in 2025

This is just bad, MTL aren’t 1-2 years away to be competing, they are 3-4 years

Guhle-Mailloux
is such a nice top 4 that i wouldnt trade Mailloux atm, nor Barron, Barron and Mailloux are eventually gonna fight for the 2nd pairing RD
Xhekaj is set to be the 3LD for his career if he's willing to sign a long term deal.
I'd also want somedoby like Necas over a 5'10 guy, Caufield, Suzuki and Newhook are under 6ft, yes suzuki and newhook dont play like they 5'10 but they also not 6'3 210 to go in corners.
habs need a LHC, Catton would be my pick in this draft, could grow to 6ft 190 eventually.
Caufield-Suzuki-Dach
Slaf-Catton-Newhook (def want an upgrade imo) that top 6 would be pretty small.

Dude I’m not getting into a debate with you about it. I’m allowed to not want him on my team for any reason. I didn’t like Hayes because I thought he was lazy on the ice. Didn’t want Provy because he didn’t seem to care anymore. Don’t want Mallioux cause he either is or was a scumbag. I couldn’t care less what you think of the kid. I wouldn’t want Briere’s kid on the team either cause he is just as much of a scumbag only difference is Mallioux is talented.

I don't think this trade achieves anything for the habs. When the expected D core becomes mature enough to challenge in the playoffs, TK will be past his prime, and probably overpaid with new long-term contract.
It's not at forward we need to get more mature, it's at D. And we will, just need to be patient.

This trade doesn't make sense for Montreal. If they make trades for guys, it will be for guys with a lot of term or RFA's. See Dach and Newhook as examples.

They aren't going to be competitive this year. Next year they might be but they shouldn't be spending all that for 1 year of a guy.
