Why on Earth would the Blues do that?

Not maybe. The Blues wouldn't even consider such a thing. Obviously.

How? From Habs perspective or the Leafs?

Leafs fans believe Nylander should fetch an out to lunch return while other non leafs fans are the other way and figure he's a dime a dozen.

Habs get a good scoring player in his prime to work alongside their young superstars. The Leafs get some manageable grit and size with Anderson, a presence on the blue line who won't shy away from conflict, will stick up for team mates, not cost an arm and a leg and is young. Plus they refill some holes in their draft picks. Personally I believe it's a pick or prospect shy of being even or a little in the Leafs favor, but I know if I had added another 2nd or 3rd someone would complain. So it's a alight edge to the Habs but both teams get what they need/want and are happy.

Anderson and Xhekaj have a great value each, exceptionnal type of players (physicality), but that's clearly not enough for a player like Nylander.

You traded a "in his prime" elite offensive player for the 2 most overrated players on the Habs team. A 3rd liner who can only perform against the leafs and a guy who would be a depth defenceman on the marlies.

a massivly over paid 3rd liner who is garbage defensivly and a bottom pairing defenders are not great value players, even if they are physical that doesnt make up for them not being valuable hockey players

Xhekaj is not an NHL player. He's a 3rd pair guy on one of the weakest bluelines on the league. Anderson is just big. He doesn't score that much and is terrible defensively. Habs are a near last place team for a reason and having Anderson and Xhekaj as "difference" makers on the team is a big reason why they are a near last place team. Nothing players on bad teams aren't saviours of better teams. They don't make better teams.

Blues decline. We like Blais, he is cheap and we are not trying to get older and more expensive

clearly the leafs. the best piece in the trade is a late 1st. Anderson is basically a worse version of Jarnkrok who people are obsessed with because he hitzzz instead of being good defensivley and he makes almost 3x as much and leafs fans are dumping Jarnkrok for late picks just to clear capspace and Xhejiejeiikijojjojhji is a bottom pairing defender, his value isnt 1/3rd what habs fans have convinced people on this board of some how.
Neither of these players are attractive adds to a nylander trade let alone a centerpiece and a late 1st and a 2nd do not make the difference up, not even close

I don't think MTL is a good trade partner for Nylander.
1. They are still rebuilding, so trading picks and futures is questionable.
2. Especially to get a forward already halfway in his prime. By the time MTL's D-core is ready to compete, Nylander is past his best.
3. Nylander won't sign for less than Suzuki, which Hughes is trying to put as an upper limit for now.

Your trade partners are bubble teams ready to take the next step and go over the hump. MTL isn't there yet.

youve just angered every habs hater by calling Anderson but a overpaid plug even though he was top 30 in xGF/60 last year and is elite at creating offence on the rush. forechecks like crazy and hits without taking too many stupid PIMs

but they are leafs fans so they only look at points and wonder why they struggle in the playoffs

The leafs playoff issues have literally been secondary scoring for years, so how does a guy who doesnt score a lot help them not struggle in the playoffs?

1. You’re being swindled
2. Easy no from Vegas
3. A slightly less easy no from St Louis
