Guerin just acquired Maroon because he felt the team needed that type of voice and physical presence on the roster after Reaves left.

Why the hell would he trade him at the deadline?

His line of thinking wasn't "This team has a serious hole that now needs filling. I think I'll go out and get a physical presence that has helped their teams win 3 out of the last 5 Stanley cups, keep him for half a season, then move him at the deadline despite my obvious need for him."

A lot can change when February comes around... Maybe Wild are out of a playoff spot and don't plan to resign Maroon.

Oh, that's a guarantee. Many read, but far fewer understand.

That and there is a LOT of team bias here, ESPECIALLY by LAFFS fans.

SO many people think their players are invaluable, but only JETS fans are correct.

And a lot can go right too in that same timespan. Its easy to say they won't, but this is still mostly the same roster that just had back to back hundred point seasons. Minus Dumba and Reaves. Maroon literally just replaced Reaves and Faber is expected to replace Dumba in the top 4.

If the Wild are in a playoff spot or close to it, moving a valuable voice in the lockerroom do to their presence and championship experience would be detrimental to MAKING the playoffs. So why move it?

And even if they're not. Moving him still doesn't make sense. If they're out of it and looking to play the youth, having someone like Maroon around for them to learn from will make a difference for when they're the ones leading the way. Keeping him around is more useful than a late draft pick regardless of whether their out of it or not.

You mean they get to live out their fantasy world of they getting what they want for a ridiculously clueless amount. Or ignoring other teams wants or needs.

I'm not saying the value here is bad. On the contrary, Minnesota is basically upgrading a 2025 7th for a 2025 5th here, so they're moving up a couple of rounds just for Maroon. Most would call that a win.

Except it flies in the face of every reason stated from the front office and local beat-writers here in Minnesota as to WHY Maroon was acquired.
